Lucie was distraught after Charles' sentence. She was checked on by Ms. Pross.
"Lady-bird we must pray. If it is in the will of the Heavenly Father your dear one will be returned to you."
"WHY was He so cruel to cause this to happen and not prevent it," Lucie yelled angrily.
"He didn't cause it," she explained, "Everyone has a purpose and a reason. In the same way every thing that happens has a purpose and a reason. Sometimes it begins small. It's a thought. It's a word. It's a minor idea. Then it starts to grow and suddenly it turns into something beautiful. But you must first chip away at the ugly. That is what the Father is doing." Lucie understood. She still didn't like it but she understood. She knew some good would come out of this. She didn't know what. She didn't want to know what. All she knew was that she needed Charles to be okay. She prayed. She prayed hard. She got a feeling of relief flow from her. She knew that everything would somehow be alright. She would somehow get through this and she wouldn't be alone. She only prayed that Charles would be with her. She needed her husband and her daughter needed her father.
