First Suits fanfic! I'm sorry if it's a bit OOC.
After that intense midseason finale and the Darvey fan inside, this happened. This is all from a fan's point of view, so I have no idea what will happen in the episodes to come.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy! Don't forget to review!
Disclaimer: I don't own Suits.
"You know what. Now, I have to go to the bathroom."
"Go for it. Take your time. No rush. If it hurts, call someone."
Harvey Specter couldn't help the roll of his eyes as he got up from the table he shared with Mike Ross, who was left smirking as he drank his scotch. If he hadn't promised the puppy a drink after finally putting the whole Cahill case behind them, he would have gone home already.
After going to the bathroom, he reached for his phone and dialed Donna's number. Mike saying, "That is so great. You guys finally decided to take the plunge!" suddenly popped up inside his head. If only, he thought bitterly as he placed the phone on his ear. He had left her at the office earlier to wait up for Robert Zane's call. He waited, listening at the phone ring.
And ring.
And ring.
Three calls and five messages later, he went back to Mike.
The younger man looked like he was about to pull another joke, so Harvey quickly announced to stop him, "Donna's not answering her phone."
Mike knew him enough to know he was worried. Something that wasn't like Harvey at all. "Well, that's unlike her."
He sighed.
"Maybe the battery died," Mike offered unhelpfully.
The closer shook his head. "She would've immediately charged it."
Mike finished his drink in one go before standing up, throwing a hefty amount on the table as he did. "Let's go. You and I both know you're not going to think about anything else."
Harvey was about to argue when Mike gave him a look that stopped him. He sighed, "You're a pain in the ass."
"Another pain?" Mike smirked as they walked out into the Manhattan air. "You should really get yourself checked out, Harvey. Might be serious."
The older man glowered at him. "Don't make me fire you after one case."
The puppy looked wounded, making Harvey smirk as he slid into the cold interior of his Lexus.
"Louis knows."
Donna Paulsen slowly sat down on the chair she was occupying earlier after putting the receiver down. Her whole body felt numb after the intense conversation she had just had with Louis Litt. She had never thought of another person other than the one occupying most of her nightmares able to scare her that way. Louis looked like he was about to kill her in his anger.
Her hands were shaking when she looked down, making her heart speed up. Her eyes glanced around the room anxiously for a distraction when she remembered that Harvey mentioned calling her to check up on Robert Zane. Her cellphone was inside her purse in her cubicle.
Willing herself to remain calm, she stood up slowly and was about to walk out of the room when she stopped short at the sight of Louis walking towards the elevators purposefully. It seemed like he was radiating anger over the entire empty office, so much so that she felt like she couldn't breathe. It was as if he would snap and go after her again if she even uttered a small sound.
There was a reason why Donna had never let anyone feel like they were above her, not even Harvey.
When the elevator doors closed, she still felt uneasy. Her knees shook, making her grab the nearest thing to steady herself. She could hear her heart thundering loudly in her ears inside the quiet office.
It was the first time she was experiencing it after a very long time. It was the reason why she left that place. It was the fear she experiences whenever she knows her father is around somewhere.
She was having a panic attack.
"What the hell?" Mike murmured, looking out the car window. "Is that Louis?"
Harvey turned to look through the windshield and saw Louis getting into his car. "That's his car."
The moment Ray stopped the car, he immediately got out to ask what the hell was going on, but the car had already disappeared. He looked up at the building and immediately rushed inside, a bad feeling gnawing inside of him. When he reached the elevators, he began to push the buttons incessantly while muttering, "Come on. Come on."
Mike's heavy footsteps were near the moment the first elevator sounded its arrival. The associate followed the closer inside before the doors closed. "What do you think happened up there?" Mike asked, out of breath.
"I don't know," Harvey answered him quietly. "I don't think it's good."
When they arrived at the 50th floor, Harvey told Mike to check his office in case Louis decided to destroy it. He made his way to Jessica's office and wondered why she wasn't there despite all of her things left the way they were. Immediately, he knew that the real problem was happening inside his office.
When the inside of his office came into view, he saw Mike talking to someone on the floor while Jessica talked on the phone. She looked frazzled, a look that was rarely on the managing partner. His footsteps quickened when he realized the person Mike was talking to, the one helpless on the floor was Donna.
"What the hell is going on?" Harvey's voiced boomed once he opened the door, making everyone inside jump.
Donna's breaths have become borderline pitiful as she gasped for more air. Harvey immediately dropped down in front of her, almost pushing Mike away in the process. "Donna. Donna, what's wrong?" he asked, looking worried as he framed her face with his hands. She was deathly pale and sweaty.
Her frightened eyes locked with his as she tried to catch her breath. Harvey quickly scanned her body to make sure she wasn't hurt in any way.
"Yes, we need an ambulance here right now," Jessica said.
Mike added. "She's not hurt. She just can't breathe."
Harvey looked at Donna resolutely. "Donna, listen to me. Copy how I breathe, okay?" He took a deep breath and let it out as a demonstration. "Copy me. Ready? Go." He repeated it for her.
"Again," he ordered. Donna was looking into his eyes with worry and redid her actions, improving slightly.
"You're doing great, just one more," he implored, stroking her cheek with his thumb.
Donna made another slow inhale and exhale, looking a bit more relaxed. After repeating her actions again and again, a bit of color had returned to her cheeks. Then she was strong enough to place a hand on Harvey's arm, almost like she was silently communicating with him. It took no time for him to understand what she meant, and he moved to her side to pick her up easily. When she was in his arms, she placed her warm forehead on his neck, worrying him about her temperature.
"I'm taking her home," he told Mike and Jessica.
"But the ambulance is on its way," Mike told him worriedly.
He glanced over at Jessica. "She won't get better in the hospital. Trust me. She'll be fine with me."
Both men then turned to the Managing Partner for the final word.
She looked tired as she nodded. "All right," she said, her voice different in Harvey's ears. "Go home, both of you. I'll see you on Monday."
His associate led the way to the elevators as Harvey quietly followed behind, checking on Donna every now and then. Her eyes were closing sleepily, and he felt worry spiked up inside of him as she did. When they were standing inside the elevators, Mike glanced over at them and asked, "Do you think Louis did this?"
Harvey had almost forgotten about the ex-partner. "I'll kill him if he did," he answered darkly.
Mike knew not to comment.
Donna Paulsen has always been Harvey Specter's girl. He depends on her for everything, and they have been in each other's lives longer than most couples have been. The associate is not blind to the fact that he loves her. Romantically or as a friend, that he had no business of interfering, but Harvey's actions said more than words ever could have. Nobody, not even Scottie or Zoey, ever had Harvey Specter wrapped around her little finger like Donna Paulsen has always have.
When they arrived at the car, Mike opened the door before he placed a sleeping Donna inside the car gently. Once she was settled in, he closed the door before turning to face his associate. Mike was looking at him seriously, making him smile a little. "Sorry about cutting our session short, kid," Harvey told him, surprising him. The older man tucked his hands inside his pockets. "Unfortunately for you, she's more important."
Mike had a smile on his face that Harvey chose to ignore. "I'll see you guys on Monday then."
He gave him a small smile before going inside the car.
What he didn't know was that Mike was watching the car pull onto the driveway with a knowing smirk with the words echoing in his mind.
They're going to take the plunge soon.
