They go to the same university.
Because of course they do.
Their entire world was shaken up by even the SLIGHTEST chance they might end up split up one day. Things weren't even set in stone- Oishi has just been considering a different school. And there was nothing wrong with that, everyone should have options. Never apply to just one school. Always have a backup plan. Eiji knew this. He did! But that didn't stop him from flying off the handle. He had chosen to attend a school close to home. Oishi had the potential for bigger and better things, he knew this. It was selfish to try- to even suggest stopping him.
It didn't stop him from making a fool of himself and saying some truly hurtful things. It didn't stop his first love from looking at him as though he had robbed him of every happy memory in his entire life. It didn't stop them from having such a messy break up that even their meddling friends couldn't fix it.
So now he was stuck. Stuck wondering about what might have happened if he had just kept his cool. Stuck contemplating if they would still be together, still be happy. Stuck wondering if they ended up in the same school because of a guilty conscious, or to spite each other. There were so many possibilities that he could spend hours thinking about them.
In fact it was that very subject that caused him to lose his train of thought while studying in the library most evenings. It unfortunately wasn't an uncommon event that one would be there already when the other arrived. And they always did their very best to ignore each other. Today it's Eiji that is already settled in and when Oishi strolls in and begins looking for an open computer in the lab Eiji finds himself ducking his head slightly to avoid being seen and silently praying that there be another spot open other than the one directly beside him. He tries his best to busy himself by checking his school e-mail.
The inbox is absolutely flooded. He really should make a mental note to check it more often. The first e-mail on the page, oddly enough, had been sent out not even ten minutes ago. 'Looking for experienced tennis players to help with coaching', read the subject bar. Which was perfect, because not only did it make him look busy but catered to his interests. As he moved to click to open the message his phone buzzed in his pocket. He freezes when the name on the screen reads the very one he had been trying to avoid.
'Help me save Seigaku?'
He can't breathe. He quickly opens the e-mail in front of him, and sure enough it's about exactly that. He glances up to see if he can find where Oishi ended up and his eyes find him immediately- directly across the room from him. Shaking slightly he finds him self nodding in Oishi's direction.
Perhaps the place that started it all can repair their damaged hearts.
