Faded Skies

Hyeong - what younger boys call their older brothers. If it was a young girl talking to an older brother, she would call him "Opa"

Other Translations of other words at the bottom.

The dream had begun with a field; him sitting side by side with Haneul, smiling and laughing –about what, Yong Soo couldn't remember- as a soft cool breeze caressed their faces and caused the lush grass to dance merrily around them. It was pleasant, happy; a safe place.

A small, plaintive sound made Yong Soo briefly turn his head away from Haneul, and when he looked back, his older brother wasn't there anymore.

"…Hyeong?"

The field was no longer the pleasant, secure place it once was; the once cool breeze now scorched him, the grass that had swayed cheerfully was brown and dry; dead. And instead of his brother beside him, there was a barrier of barbed wire, so much of it that there were no gaps in between the coils to see what was on the other side; an angry, cold tangle that stretched on farther than Yong Soo could see.

"Hyeong? Hyeong! Where are you? Where did you go?" He had shouted, but no one answered. It was silent, aside from the howling of the scorching wind.

The scene then changed, the world around him morphing into a battlefield. Purple clouds few across a blood-red sky, blue lightning crackled as it whipped overhead and black rain pelted the blood-soaked ground where bodies lay unmoving. Yong Soo looked around, disoriented, confused; afraid.

"Miyanhae, little brother."

Yong Soo whirled around, about to say something, but the words had died in his mouth as he stared down the barrel of a gun, a rain-soaked Haneul smiling maliciously at him, and his beloved China standing behind him, smirking at Yong Soo who backed away, eyes widening.

"Hyeong… Aniki… why…?"

Haneul's expression turned frigid.

"Annyeong, Yong Soo."

"Haneu-!"

And he pulled the trigger.

Yong Soo's eyes flew open as he jerked awake; he was trembling. Shakily, he sat up and buried his face in one of his hands. Slowly, a few tears found their way out of his eyes and dripped down his face, falling down and darkening where they had fallen on his soft blanket. His body shook as silent sobs wracked his body.

"Hyeong... I miss you…"

Annyeong (ahn-YONG)– It can mean either hello or good-bye (in this case, it means good-bye), this version is used for people your age and younger.

Miyanhae (MEE-yahn-heh) – Means "I'm sorry". Used for someone your age or younger.

Haneul (HAH-nuhl) - means "sky" in Korean and it can be used as a name. I'm using it as North Korea's name for now x_X
