'You're just a fool.' He thought as he looked longingly at the girl on the swings. She was out of his league. Yet he couldn't stay away. 'You're just fooling yourself.'
He walked away, but he knew living without her, he'd go insane.
He remembered all those days a year ago, when he could feel her breath on his face, that look in her eyes, how her body would be so close to his. He sighed, 'She's out of my league.'
He walked away, like she had so many months ago. When he couldn't bring himself to tell her the truth. Of how he actually felt.
'She's like the wind.' He thought. 'Already she has stopped.'
His body felt bare, cold without her. With her warmth around his heart was there. Only he knew the truth. The truth that she had taken his heart. The very first time that he had laid eyes on her.
He walked home. He looked at himself in the mirror. But all he could see is a young man with only a dream. He knew the truth, living without her was driving him insane.
All those nights, with her so close. Just an arm length away. But he knew, 'she's like the wind.'
Now he drove himself crazy, she was his. In his arms. Always smiling. Holding him, comforting him, when his body was torn in two.
Now every night he just stayed awake yearning to hold her. Too listen to her stories. And feel her body, so close to his. To hear her breathing and her heart beating, when she was dreaming. It felt as if he was lost in the moment.
Each moment he treasured. For now, he didn't want to close his eyes, for he felt he'd miss a thought about her and her tenderness. The way she would turn in her head in concern each time he was sick. Or how the rythm of her heart would always put him to sleep in happiness. Every moment he cherished.
Now his world as if he had fallen asleep, for he felt her presence, yet she wasn't there. As if her weight was in his arms but she never appeared there. All he wanted to feel her heart close to his, and to stay in that moment for the rest of time.
He walked into his bedroom, looking at the clothes scattered across the floor. Everything that appeared reminded him of her. He sat down, feeling the pieces of his heart she had taken with her. No longer could he get through the day, for the words he needed to hear were taken with her.
He straightened up his posture and looked out the window. He saw the red haired girl cross the street to the apartment building. He looked at her face and sorrow feeled his body as he absorbed her facial features. This girl had deep blue ocean eyes. He sighed. He knew that he would no longer feel the same way as he did.
He missed the time when she would say a rhyme for him to make him smile in his sleep. The times that she would come home and fall into his arms. Or how she'd just smile and everything seemed all right.
But nothing would ever be all right. Not now. It was too late. She was no longer his, or anyone elses.
Just a soul wondering the sky.
Above the world, so high.
The few words he wanted to say,
would never be heard.
The one regret he carried,
was not saying good-bye.
James carried the whole wait on his shoulders as he waited for his time to see his flower, his Lily.
