Disclaimer: I don't own Twilight. Or the characters, storyline, or anything else. Just this, my very first fanfic!

AN: So, I just thought of this while (what else) doing the grocery shopping for my family. Originally written about myself, but almost completely the same (it's obvious what parts are changed or added). Written in present tense, which I have recently fallen in love with. Takes place post-Eclipse.

Reviews are love!

Grocery shopping. A simple, routine task. I do it every week, barely even varying the selections I make. Charlie is never picky about what I prepare, as long as it's edible.

I exit my truck, and make my way into the Thriftway, nearly slipping on the rain-wet pavement on my way to the automatic door. I stroll down the first aisle, picking up a ham steak. As I continue walking, I take a few yogurts off the shelf for myself, some cream cheese, and a half-gallon of milk.

I carry my small basket toward the deli counter, mentally calculating the amount of cold cuts I'll need. The nearly empty store seems to echo with my voice when I quietly order.

"A quarter of a pound of sharp cheddar, please." My favorite kind of cheese. Charlie's, too.

"Anything else?" says the man at the counter.

"A quarter of a pound of honeyed ham, also." He packs up my meat and cheese and hands them to me. I put them in the basket, thank him, and keep moving.

Next is the bakery. I pick up a package of bagels and a small loaf of white bread.

I quickly continue through produce, just getting a few red apples.

As I turn the corner, I toss my long dark hair over my shoulder as I make my way to my doom.

And now, for the bane of my existence. The freezer aisle. You would think, being in love with an ice-cold vampire, that I would like the cold. You would think wrong. I briskly walk through the freezer aisle, trying to keep myself warm by rubbing my arm. I take some vanilla ice cream from one of the shelves and nearly run out of the aisle, tripping, of course on my own feet.

I brace myself for the fall, prepared for the worst.

Arms colder than ice break my fall, and for once, I don't mind the temperature. Probably because when he stands me upright, hot blood creeps up onto my cheeks. He gives me his crooked smile.

"How did you--"

"Alice." That's the only answer I need. Edward presses his lips to mine for a brief second. He escorts me to checkout, graciously paying for the week's food.

I pray this is a task I won't have to do much longer. As if hearing my thoughts, he leans in for another chaste kiss.

"Three more weeks, Bella."
