Remembering Sunday
Edward woke up from the same dream again.. He sat up straight and looked out the window..
It was dark outside, probably about 2am, but he got up and changed clothes..
He couldn't help it.. He hasn't felt like himself lately.. like there's this bad feeling in his gut for some time now..
He's been away from his hometown for too long, he thought he'd go back and probably visit..The cold breeze swept through his whole body.. He walked down the dirt path and hurried to the train station, hoping he'd be able to catch a train.
… … … … … …
A figure appeared right before him.. A girl with light blond hair.. Winry..
He looked around, and realized he was in a familiar room.. they were in a kitchen..
The sunlight was entering the room, and was so bright.. it was morning..
Suddenly, everything was fading..
The whole room went black, and the last thing he saw was Winry's smile..
… … … … … …
That dream again.. Ed opened his eyes.. the train had stopped, and he looked out the window to the place where he grew up in.. The same small town which holds his childhood memories, where everything started.. Resembool..
He got out the train under the dawning sky.. He trudged down the dirt path towards the location of the house he'd always go to back then..
He knocked on the door, not caring how early it was in the morning.. Minutes later, a grumpy, sleepy-looking man opened the door, who he didn't recognize at all..
Ed was shocked, and said worriedly..
"I'm terribly sorry, I don't mean to be a bother, but.. have you seen.. I mean.. Where is the previous resident of this house..? Winry Rockbell? Did she move out..?"
The man's expression changed.. He just looked at Ed.. Speechless, with a big frown on his face..
Ed's patience was wearing out.. what the hell is he just standing there for?
"Look.. She's been running through my dreams.. and it's driving me crazy.. I know this sounds awkward to say to a complete stranger, but I'm gonna ask her to marry me.. So.. would you please tell me where she is..?"
The man finally opened his mouth.. Ed's heart starting to race.. either from the eagerness of knowing where Winry is, or from the tension he's experiencing..
"I'm sorry.. Winry isn't around here anymore.." he said silently..
"What do you mean..? She's not in Resembool?" Ed said hastily..
"… Y-yes….. Something like that.. Now please, don't bother me again.. I'm sorry she isn't here, but I'd like to be left in peace.. Good day.." and the man closed the door..
Ed was left there outside.. many things running through his mind..
He rushed to the next nearest house, a few kilometers away and started waking neighbors..
He knocked on their doors, but nobody seemed to answer his questions frankly..
… … … … … …
The sun was high in the sky now.. and the only replies he got was that Winry moved away.. as he passed by the cemetery where his mother was buried, it started to rain.. Ed just kept walking, now on his way to the site where his old house used to be before he and his brother Al burned it down..
Still walking, Ed was now deep in thought.. It was funny how it rained all day.. then it all started to make sense..
Miserably, Edward stared down at the ruins left of his old house..
Feeling empty inside.. he said..
"I guess I'll go home now.."
… … … … … …
I'm not coming back.. I've done something so terrible.. I'm terrified to speak but you'd expect that from me.. I'm mixed up, I'll be blunt, now the rain is just washing you out of my hair and out of my mind..
Keeping an eye on the world.. from so many thousands of feet off the ground..
I'm over you now.. I'm at home in the clouds.. towering over your head..
Note: Winry's saying this last part..
