Tadaomi Karasuma carefully tip toed into bedroom he shared with his wife, Irina Jelavic. She was asleep, almost motionless surprisingly. He frowned slightly. He intended to be home earlier so they could spend some time together, but a wrench had been thrown in his plan. The job was certainly demanding.
But, he still sighed and grabbed a pair of pajama pants. He took off his work clothes and slipped on his comfortable pants. He crawled into bed with Irina, smiling softly at her face. Her lips were soft and pink, her lashes long and dark, and her button nose was dotted with otherwise unnoticeable freckles.
How did a guy like him get such a catch?
He sighed happily and turned over, trying to sleep himself. With mostly happy thoughts blazing through his mind, the task was easier than expected. He was out cold.
A few hours afterwards, Irina began twitching slightly, tossing and turning. Soon, tears were streaming down her face as she gripped the sheets, a look of pure pain etched on her features. Karasuma woke up, feeling the bed shake. He quickly turned around and looked at her. He frowned and sat up, shaking her awake.
Irina gasped and opened her eyes wide, looking everywhere to ensure it was reality. She threw herself at Karasuma sobbing into his bare chest. He sighed and wrapped his arms around her, peppering the top of her head with kisses. She shook ferociously, clawing at his forearms.
"It's alright now.. What happened?" he asked quietly, running long fingers through her soft, long blonde hair. "You didn't save me.." she whispered, not moving from his chest. "What?" There was silence, which settled hideously in the air. "Irina, what happened?"
...
"Come on, please let me know.."
"T-the reaper was there and h-he had me and you just.. watched. You got a phone call from work a-and ran off. Like I was already.. gone." Karasuma gripped her shoulders and pushed her away from him, forcing her to look in his eyes.
"Irina, I would never do that. You matter more to me than that, ok? I could never just stand there when anything was happening to you. I know you're strong and independent, but if you needed help at all, I would do any and everything to help you."
"Really?" she said quietly, sobbing silently still. "Yes, beautiful," he replied, smiling. Irina blushed red and gave a watery chuckle. "Thank you, Tadaomi." "Anything for you." He smiled reassuringly before returning to his spot.
Irina laid down as well, feeling much better. She stared at his back as she wrapped her arms around him. She nuzzled into his back before smirking. "Tadaomi?" she playfully pouted. "Yes? he asked, turning ever so slightly. "Your back is really cold.. could you turn over?"
He smiled and did so, holding his arms open for her. She wiggled her way in easily, holding him tightly. He did the same, resting his leg atop hers. "I love you," Tadaomi muttered.
There was silence.
"Irina?" No reply again. He looked at her face.
She was already sound asleep.
