spreading these wings

taking off in a whirl of blue

we soar up in flight

reaching for the stars

where our wishes might come true

but are mere wishes ever enough?

empty dreams and hopes aren't enough

it's time to unfurl your wings

time to try and grasp the stars once more

search for new horizons and take flight

against that unyielding strip of blue

maybe the legends really are true

so the legend is true

and no matter how much we search, the answers aren't enough

maybe it's time to shed these wings

stop trying to catch stars

stop trying to take flight

just disappear below that great blue

my vision filled with blue

"if you make a wish it might come true."

drawing these lines in the sand might fool us into thinking it's enough

observe these battered, broken wings

put away my dreams, stop trying to chase after stars

stop thinking that because I can lift my feet off the ground it means I can take flight

so here I wait, just counting stars

still yearning for that feeling of flight

but knowing I'll never make it past the horizon towards that great blue

and maybe just maybe the legend isn't true

I'm tired of waiting around here below, I've had enough

once more it's time to spread these repairing wings

spread your wings and reach for the stars

towards the deep blue I'll take flight

it's time to prove the legends aren't true— in the end I know that it'll never be enough

a/n: so I recently learned about a poem type called a sestina, and because imperishable night's 'voyage 1969' was still ringing in my ears (I love you eirin but I hate your spellcards) and because I was feeling nostalgic towards my favorite dragon books, I decided to type this up just in time for the holidays. it's a reminder about how no matter how many times eragon falls down, he'll get back up and try again and come back stronger.

(stupid ffn formatting system. why won't you let me use line breaks for my poem?! )

thank you for taking the time to read this. feedback is definitely appreciated.
