Prologue: Pretty Lady, Lazy Girl
Warm, cozy, comfortable, heavenly, soft...
Those were the perfect words to describe a bed.
Coldness, hardness, uncomfortableness, confusion, annoyance.
Those were the things Aircana was feeling.
Maybe it was because her bed was as cheap as a bad piece of wood, or maybe it was her brick like pillow, but for some reason, the girl just couldn't help but feel those anoying feeling.
You see, there was no reason for her to feel this annoyances. She was already used to her cheap bed, plus her naturally lazy self didn't really mind how soft her blanked is, as long as it kept her warm enough...
Yet she was colder than ever.
Yet, even though it was a peaceful Saturday morning, she was waking up.
What a waste...
The girl reluctantly opened her eyes. Looking around, the first thing she did was tap her fingers over the unusually hard bed surfice, searching blindly for her big red glasses. Unfortunately, she didn't feel anything besides the smooth and painfully cold surface of the floor. Yeah, 'the floor', there is no way in hell her bed suddenly turned that hard.
Tilting her head, the girl gave up tapping around, and decided instead to just focus on the blurry colors surrounding her.
This tactic proved to be quite useful when she distinguished a red blur that was exactly the same color as her glasses. The girl smirked and placed the blurry object on her face.
As soon as the glasses made contact with her face she shivered, not expecting it to be so freaking cold. For a brief moment she considered taking the block of ice away from her face, just for the sake of sparing the small amount of warmth she still had, but after actually seeing her surroundings, she decided against it. A warm face is nice, but seeing everything with shapes and shades is way, way, better.
Aircana frowned at the unfamiliar stuff surrounding her... All the blurs she thought were bed sheets proved to be two really thin newspapers slightly torn on the edges and so old they were turning yellow. Her pillow was nowhere to be found and to make things better, the coldness she was feeling came from a rock. Like a really, really giant ass rock.
And the worst part? There were practically no rocks close to her home. Much less rocks big enough for her to sleep on.
Now tell me, wasn't that suspicious? Scarily so?
Aircana pondered about freaking out but decided against it. Even though this was a seriously bizarre way to wake up, she was not a morning person and wasting so much energy this early wasn't worth it. After letting out a silent yawn, the girl mentally cursed whatever celestial being was above her and glared at the skies until she calmed down.
In no time, the girl with glasses was satisfied and ready to explore, she stretched her neck, and started dragging her lazy ass away from the bed-rock, moving so slowly a cliché zombie would be proud. She felt the wet grass and muddy ground completely dirtying her socks and shivered, a silent growl escaping her lips. 'And there goes one of my precious warm resources...' Looking sadly at her favorite socks, the girl decided to keep her socks on, she didn't wanted mud on her feet.
Taking a few more steps away from the rock, the girl did a quick once over of the place. Seeing lots of pigeons, rocks, long grass and a few trees. Downhill, was a small village, full of farms and houses extremely similar to those from the cartoons and anime she saw when she was little...
Aircana frowned, actually it was a little too similar for her taste... Walking closer to the houses the girl came to the realization that the houses were not only build based on cartoons, but also had the same unrealistic texture, as if someone virtually painted the scenery to look like a high quality anime. Failing backwards by this realization, the girl's jaw practically hit the ground. 'Wow, Mom wasn't kidding when she said I was watching too much anime.'
The girl blinked and tried cleaning her glasses several times, but it didn't matter how many times she cleaned the damn thing she still saw the same anime-like landscape. Reluctantly, Aircana decided to give this strange land a chance and focused on the borders of a nearby tree. In the beginning it was quite hard for her sleepy mind to be sure but as the seconds passed by, our female protagonist was pretty sure she saw the really thin borders of a freaking pigeon close by and the almost transparent borders of the grass surrounding her...
Well it was official! She was finally going crazy. The girl threw her hands in the air and sighed. 'Fuck this shit!'she preferred sleeping on rocks than facing insanity! Though, sleeping on the grass didn't seem so bad.
Grass is softer than rock right?
Her sleepy brain shrugged, 'Don't know, don't care, just go to the closer one.' Aircana agreed wholeheartly.
The glasses girl was practically threwing herself on the grass, when her stomach decided to scream for food. Mentally cursing, the girl hit her head on a near tree. Repetitively.
After doing this process enough times to leave a small bloody injury on her forehead, the girl was having a small headache... Cursing her lack of plan, she decided to wipe away the crimson liquid before the fluid entered her eyes. Using her long sleeved pyjamas, the girl successfully transferred her blood to her sleeve, turning the soft yellow sleeve to a suspicious dark red.
Like all those serial murders...
Great. Just what she needed.
Her stomach started screaming in protest, remenbering what she really needs. Sighing, the girl glared at a nearby house 'Asking for food wouldn't hurt, now would it?' She covered her injured forehead with her tangled bangs and checked her cotton pyjamas pants' pockets, trying to find any loose change. As expected there was no money, but she did found her old white cellphone. Or at least the cartoonish version of her old cellphone... Oh joy.
She turned her cellphone screen on and raised her eyebrow, it was already 6:00 AM. Which meant she only slept for 7 hours. Yeah, yeah she was sleeping on a god damn rock but no one would willingly wake up at 6:00, much less on a Saturday.
That was... That was just not possible. Even though she slept on the ground (worst night ever), she would've slept until 10:40 AM or something.
After seeing the time, her eyes instinctively landed on her phone battery. A cheerful 95% was glowing in the corner of the really was a beautiful sign, but the girl couldn't help but raise her eyebrow, maybe her mind was still clouded by sleep but she could swear last time she used her phone she only had 30% battery charge, so where the hell did those extra 65% come from? Honestly, it didn't made sense, she didn't charge the phone before sleeping...
The girl narrowed her eyes, finally realizing something. 'I didn't sleep with my cellphone yesterday. Actually... I never sleep with my cellphone! So what the hell is it doing in my pyjamas?!'
Confused, the girl eyed her phone skeptically, waiting for the thing to explode or something. When nothing happened, she carefully clicked on her notebook app, and wrote [testing, testing are you still with me, phone? Testing, testing] to see if her everything was still worked. Fortunately her keyboard seemed normal and no' Are you an idiot? You just installed a giant virus!' warning popped on her scream.
The girl sighed in relief. 'Good, at least the cartoonish version of the phone still works.'
Guarding her white phone for later in the safety of her pocket, the girl decided to actually move and ask for food.
She slowly walked over the slightly wet grass, making her stripped socks turn brown and sticky but she needed to suck it up and find food. It seemed simple enough, I mean, how bad could a small walk downhill possibly be?
A lot aparently.
For such a warm and comfortable land, this place had some really cold breezes, winds evil enought to make her feet completely freze and numb, each of her steps seemed to burn her feet in a cold pain that quickly spread throught her whole body. Even the smallest of rocks that managed to penetrate her soft skin suddenly became as efficient as a torture device.
A few minutes of cold feet later, Aircana finally reached a small cute white house, with two old windows and a fluffy handmade entrance carpet with a "Doorbell broken, yell "Ding Dong!" sign in the center. It was simple, but she liked it. Hesitantly, the girl stepped on the carpet and brushed her feet on the fluffy thing, sending small waves of warmth onto the soles of her feet. Relieved by the warmth, the girl knocked on the door.
For a moment, there was nothing besides soft voices coming from inside the house, but after a few slow seconds a shy and highly accented, "Just a moment!" came from the other side of the door, followed by soft steps. In no time, a small woman with short black hair and light green eyes opened the door. She seemed deadly tired, but when her eyes landed on Aircana's tired and dirty self, she couldn't help but raise one amused yet worried eyebrow. "Oh, um...Hello? Do you need something? You don't look very well..."
However, Aircana didn't listen to even a word she said. She was too busy widening her eyes and ogling at the semi 3D girl with flawless tan skin, and cute anime styled eyes, right in front of her. Looking undeniably real, yet at the same time not at all! It was strange really, the small woman had those incredible big and cute eyes that only anime characters managed to have, but unlike the eyes of some TV characters, her eyes held way more green shades then any anime or animation. The shades changed constantly depending on the sunlight, making the colors vary from a ghostly green to a light lemon green. It was a strange beauty, one that seemed to warm Aircana's heart. And while she knew staring was considered rude especially with strangers, she couldn't help but freeze and openly stare at the green eyed woman.
Said green eyed woman was feeling a little awkward. "Um... Miss? Miss?"
Aircana shook her head, snapping out of her staring and quickly withdrew her phone, typing the message[Sorry about that pretty girl, I was kind of lost in your eyes so I didn't listen to what you said] which she then shoved it into the woman's face.
The tanned woman blinked at the strange item currently being held in front of her face and raised an eyebrow at the small words inside of the mysterious electronic rock-notebook-phone-thing (?). Hesitantly the woman read the message and blushed. "Oh..."
Aircana blinked, this wasn't the reaction she wanted... Did she wrote something wrong? Carefully re-reading the message, Aircana came to the conclusion that she was still sleepy. Sighing, the girl with glasses replaced her previous message with a [Okay, so the previous message may have sounded kind of flirty but don't worry sweetie pie, I am not hitting on you. I am just sleepy and I always became flirtier when I am sleepy]
The black-haired woman's blush didn't go away but her eyebrow was raised in a skeptical manner. It really was a wonder why the woman didn't just slam the door shut and called the police.
'Maybe she is a criminal, so the cops hate her guts.' Aircana mentally snorted at the thought and quickly smashed her phone's keyboard again. All the while, listening to the annoyed foot taps from the pretty woman.[Well then. Since you already have a terrible first impression of me and most likely want me to go away as fast as I can, I will cut the case and go straight to the point. You see dear, I am incredibly hungry and cold']
The pretty woman eyed the cellphone again and frowned. "So, you do know shoving this... Thing in my face is incredibly rude. Do you have a particular reason for this? Or are you just trying to annoy me?"
Aircana sighed. She had this feeling that the woman didn't even read past the '...have a terrible first impression' line. It was sad how many people didn't finish reading whatever she wrote before talking, be it because they are lazy, they don't care, or simply because she wasn't saying anything, therefore they thought the silence was the best time to talk.
Still a little tired and cold, the glasses girl decided to just give the woman another message. But the woman had others angrily snatched the cellphone from Aircana before she could finish her message and frowned, "That's ridiculous, if you want something you should at last talk to me, girl."
Said girl just growled exasperated, mentally cursing at the lack of sound coming from her mouth. Couldn't she even curse normally? Goddammit!
The black haired woman narrowed her eyes. "Still nothing?"
Aircana resisted the urge to roll her eyes. 'I am afraid not, sweetheart'. Unfortunately it looked like the tanned woman couldn't read minds... Sighing, Aircana decided to just use body language, she slowly pointed at her throat and then shook her head, making the woman confused. Trying again, the girl moved her mouth as though she was talking and then crossed her arms in a 'X' position, hoping the woman would understand. But the woman just tilted her head, confusion and curiosity sparkling over her angry eyes.
Well, that wasn't making too much progress, now was it? Rolling her eyes, Aircana pointed at the phone, gaining a glare from the woman.
After a whole 40 seconds of glaring and slowly turning into human popsicles, the woman averted her eyes to the phone and actually read the damn message! 'Finally! ' Aircana thought, rubbing her hands and watching with pleasure as the woman started reading, [I am mute sweetheart, this 'thing' is my best comunicati-] even though the message was incomplete the point was still there.
When the woman finished reading she started to blink, looking quite ashamed. Aircana was sure she had some cool remark on the tip of her tongue, but in the end all the woman managed to say was a very intelligent "Oh..." She quietly handed the phone back and apologized. "Sorry..."
Aircana just smirked and waved her hand in a dismissive manner. If she got offended every time someone did this, she would be bald from pulling her hair out. The green eyed woman eyed her awkwardly. "Um...Are you deaf too?'
Aircana just shook her head, she could hear just fine thank you. The woman nodded "Interesting... I never met someone who was mute before."
[Beside myself, I haven't met anyone either]The glasses girl wrote, inwardly noticing how the woman became way more patient now that Aircana proved she wasn't being impolite by choice.
"I guess it's quite rare then..." The green-eyed lady mumbled, she seemed to be thinking about something but before she could voice anything out Aircana's angry stomach screamed for food, lots of food. The girl blushed at the loud sound and quickly eyed the woman, her eyes almost begging for food.
The tanned woman's eyebrows rose. "Oh yes, you wanted food right?"
Aircana nodded frantically, making the woman smirk. "You are a strange girl, you know that? It's kind of amusing... " Stepping away from the door, the green-eyed lady left enough room for the girl to come in. "I am kind of lonely at the moment so feel free to join me, consider this as an apologize for my rude behavior."
Aircana blinked, what? Was the lady really letting her inside the house that easily? She expected some bread or something, not an invitation to eat breakfast! She eyed the woman with disbelief, but said woman didn't show any signs of closing the door. Aircana's eyes softened, she picked up her phone and wrote a sincere [Thanks Honey].
Laughing softly, the pretty woman blushed, making her light green eyes brighter. "While honey is a very unique nickname, I would prefer you calling me Emily."
The girl with glasses blinked and typed her first polite answer. [Oh, it's a pleasure to meet you Emily]
Emily gracefully walked inside the house, her long old fashioned skirt waving a little by the movement and smiled in a 'So you can be polite!' way. "The pleasure is mine, dear."
Aircana couldn't help but smile softly, feeling the woman's happiness brush on her. She tried entering but Emily gave her dirty socks a disapproving look. "You can come in, but the socks stay out." Shaking her head, Emily continued, "Really, I am surprised you didn't get a cold."
The lazy girl pouted, but in the end she took off her beautiful stripped socks and left them in a corner outside of the house. She wasn't very pleased to leave her only socks in front a non-protected house but Emily seemed very satisfied.
Following her hostess inside, the girl was led to a simple room with three wooden chairs and a small round table decorated with a cute old fashioned flower vase full of garden flowers. A huge old clock hanged on the wall close to one of the oldest telephones Aircana ever saw, together with a thick red carpet. It was a strange house full of clock and lamps that seemed to come straight out of the nineties... But while the old stuff wasn't really her kind of decoration, Aircana wasn't going to complain, she appreciated the warn roof above her.
"So dear," Emily's sudden voice turned the girl away from her house thoughts. "What's your name?"
The girl took her phone and wrote her answer[The name is Aircana Valdez].
Emily picked a straw basket and started pulling bread out of it. She then sliced the bread, placing a few slices of cheese inside each bread. After doing this she watched with mild amusement as the girl's gaze locked with the bread. 'She really is hungry...' Giving Aircana's phone a small glance the woman smiled. "Aircana huh? " she said pronouncing the name with a mute 'i' "That's a very unique name... Can I just call you Air-san?"
Air nodded carefully typing her answer. When she finished, she send Emily a thumbs up [You can call me whatever you want baby~].
Emily read the message and snorted, receiving a cheeky wink from her guest. She had the feeling that she should feel uncomfortable and awkward about the girl's flirting habit, but her comments were just too random to be taken seriously. "I guess I stick Air-san then."
Aircana just nodded looking at the breads in anticipation. Noticing the girl's anticipation, the green-eyed woman raised her eyebrow. "You know Air-san, breakfast is gonna take a while to be ready." Aircana just waved her hand dismissing her comment and kept looking at Emily's food. The woman sweat dropped. "Hm...Okay then, do as you please."
Emily took a really big iron mug and started to fill the thing with milk, when it filled half of the mug she stopped and placed the mug on her little stove. Turning her fire on, the woman smiled at her guest. "Do you prefer milk with honey or cocoa?"
Aircana raised her eyebrow, she was really tempted to demand 'Nescal please' but in the end all she did was shrug. Honestly, be it with honey or cocoa, a warm milk will always be a damn good warm milk. So there was no need to be a bastard and ask Emily to use something she probably didn't have.
"Okay then." The woman said, taking an almost empty can of honey and pouring everything on the iron mug. She then picked a big ham and slowly cut it into perfect thin slices...
It was a slow process...
"You know Air...If you keep on these wet clothes you might catch a cold." Emily spoke softly, taking the girl's attention away from the glorious food. "I have a few spare clothes that might fit you, so if you want you can go change into a comfier outfit while I take care of the milk."
Aircana looked at her weirdly, oh don't get her wrong, she knew Emily that was a kind woman but there was no way someone this kind existed. She was a stranger! A freaking stranger with no money! No stranger was this kind to someone poor, much less this early in the morning. They just don't. It was common knowledge.
'Maybe it's because she is an anime character...In every anime there is at least one nice lady.' Aircana's brain tried to reassure her. She blinked, yeah maybe that's why...
If that's the case... Then, she would accept Emily hospitality.
The girl hopped closer to her host and gave her a questioning look, hoping for directions.
Smiling, Emily pointed her long finger at an open door. "There, just go into the hall and open the second door to the left." She gave her a stern look. "On the left, got it?"
The girl mock saluted and ran to the hall. There she found a short hall with two snow white doors on the left and two recently painted black doors with the words 'out of order 'on the right. Raising her eyebrow, the girl entered the second door on the left. While she was curious about the black doors she was no fool, if the place was out of order, it was out of order for a reason. Especially now that she was in an anime.
After entering the door, Aircana was presented by a plain white room with a simple bed completely covered in bags and a big... Something... Covered by a grey cloth. The something was clued on the wall and was definitively thin so it was probably a mirror...
She would love to describe more about the scenario but unfortunately that was it: bed, bags, and a probably-a-mirror-but-I-am-not-sure thing. Disappointing, hm?
While the room was indeed a little disappointing, the girl couldn't help but feel excited about the probably-a-mirror-but-I-am-not-sure thing. If it was actually a mirror, she would finally see how she looked like! Cause honestly, who never wondered what you would be like if they were an anime character?
Silently giggling to herself, the girl threw the damn cloth away, revealing a big mirror and her beautiful anime self!
Well kinda beautiful... She was as expected barefoot, wearing crumpled pyjamas full of dirt and pants so damn muddy, the bottom was actually sticking on her leg... Oh and did she mention how her pale skin was successfully making her cold lips look even bluer then normal? And how her freckles seemed to have multiplied?
Yeah great view... But on the bright side, while she was in a crappy moment she was indeed way cuter now! Well... At least by her standards. Her flat chest seemed to have magically transformed into a nice B cup and judging by her body proportions, she was at least five inches taller. Her long hair had been mysteriously cut around her shoulders, making her wild black locks curl in a messy yet fashionable way. Her eyes were fortunately the same dark brown shade she always had but this time they were bigger and brighter, giving the vibe of a somehow realistic anime eye, just like Emily's. Her big red glasses seemed to have grown even bigger too, now occupying almost half of her face but unfortunately not covering much of her freckles.
Aircana looked at the stranger in the mirror, barely holding her excitement and slowly shook her hand, waving at her reflection. The stranger on the mirror copied her. Smiling, the girl hopped as high as she could and watched as her reflection did exactly the same thing.
There was no denying. Everything from the freckles to the pale skin was 100% Aircana trade and the tired girl on the mirror was definitely her anime self. While there was a lot of wrong things with her current appearance, Aircana wasn't really interested in those small details.
Oh no, she was way more interested with her actual cuteness!
With eyes sparkling, the girl pinched her own cheek and smiled. 'Ha! I am so adorable Nyan Cat would be jealous!'
A/N: Believe it or not but this shit actually has a plot! (Yay, plot ahead!) Also sorry for the long and boring chapter full of OCs. I kind of got full author mode in this prologue...
Also important question! About Aircana: what do you think of her? Is she cool? Terrible? Tolerable?
Useless preview of the new chapter:
"Are you crying..?"
"You are indeed crying! Why are you crying?!"
