The Highway by Taiyo-chan

Disclaimer: I do not own Avatar: The Last Airbender or anything related to it. It's just my way of expressing my love for the show.

A.N. I think it's best I do the author's note before the poem to give heads up. I was walking down the highway to get to a gas station and reflected on how my shadow moved whenever a nearby car came and once again my randomness gave birth to something. It's somewhat of an extended metaphor, I'm not sure what to call it but here's a little guide.

The Highway represents Aang's life or coming of age

The light represents the hardships

The shadow represents Aang's understanding of everything in his life

Anyway, enjoy!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm walking on the highway

With my shadow beside me

Things are going well

I believe I'm making progress

But then the light comes

And steals my shadow away

It's as if what I gained

Had never came to me

I'm lost, I don't understand

What exactly am I supposed to do?

Just when I think my shadow has returned

It is taken by the light

What am I supposed to do?

Let go, let go, let go

How can I when I'm in love with her?

Is there something wrong with love?

Or is there something wrong with me?

My shadow is gone

The light seems to have won

I'm tired now

Because another light has struck

Just when I thought I had the answer

A different light strikes me like a knife

It has left an even worse mark

I can only feel pain

Broken, wounded, and healed

Should I take what I got?

Or fight for my shadow?

What would she say?

What would they all say?

I can't ask them for the answer

But they can guide me

After all, they are my family

Right now I'll sleep

And then I'll walk the highway again
