"Are you alright Doctor?"
"Fine, Tegan. Just try and keep it still. I can't afford to make a mistake here"
"Convenient that Nyssa and Adric just happened to wander off when all of this started" she grumbled.
"Yes well, you'll just have to have a good escape route prepared next time won't you" the Doctor replied, his face fixed in concentration.
Tegan rolled her eyes and sighed. She wished that sometimes the Doctor would not keep jumping into situations he knew virtually nothing about, just because he wanted to help. Still, at least this time he was helping someone he knew, or rather someone who knew him. When she asked the Doctor who this person was, he'd just shrugged and said the man must know him at some point in his past, but the Doctor's future.
Tegan was really starting to hate how time travel could throw up things like that. Sometimes just thinking about a little paradox made you go cross eyed and get a headache. At least there was the occasional plus point, like the TARDIS making sure you never got jet lag…or perhaps time lag. She was sure the Doctor had some sort of pretentious sounding name for it.
"Aha! Got it!" the Doctor exclaimed, wiping his brow with his free hand.
Tegan snapped back to reality "So that's it then, saved the world again" she replied, her voice laced with sarcasm.
The Doctor frowned at her. He was about to comment on her attitude when he spotted Nyssa and Adric approaching them.
They both seemed rather puzzled, and were accompanied by a very familiar looking man.
"Oh my…" the man gasped upon seeing the Doctor.
Tegan's eyes went wide as she stared at the man. This was a whole new level of weird.
"Doctor, what in the heck is going on here?" she asked.
"Well, it would appear that we have accidentally arrived in a parallel universe" he replied "I would hazard a guess that someone has been playing about with the controls to the dimensional portal generator"
At hearing this, Adric took a sudden and deep interest in his own shoes.
The man who had been staring at the Doctor coughed loudly and composed himself
"Well, I really appreciate you taking care of this for me. You did very well indeed considering that you don't seem to have been prepared for it at all"
The Doctor grinned with pride "Well I'm used to being thrown into the deep end of things. Anyway, it's a pleasure to meet you mister…."
"Farnon, Tristan Farnon"
The pair shook hands as Emma the cow mooed, admiring her newborn calf.
