Title: Expulsion From Paradise
Fandom: STTOS
Genre: Romance/Angst
Pairing: K/S
Summary: Spock has returned to track down V'Ger, but Kirk is missing him still. Implied K/S.
"Spock?" He didn't expect Spock would be so cold. No matter what had happened to them before, Spock was never cold toward him. "May I come in?"
Spock looked at him, all of the old feeling seeming gone from his eyes. He stepped back and said, "If you wish."
The quarters Spock was borrowing were stark and Spartan, and Jim felt awkward immediately upon entering. Why had everything changed? What had driven Spock to leave him alone in favor of the kohlinar?
Had it been Jim's fault?
"Captain?" Spock's hand twitched, and Jim wondered if he had been about to reach for him.
"Was it my fault?" When it came to him and Spock, the time for subtlety was long over. He took a step forward, closing the distance between them to maybe six inches on the outside. "You left in the middle of the night, no explanation...no goodbye."
Spock was silent, a statue of himself, and Jim knew what that meant. "I'm sorry, Spock."
And he left his nobler half there, because he had no where else to go.

Author's Note: Grrrrrrrrrr, all of this angst! I'm working on fluff, I swear! Anyway, this happened because I kept watching Episode 4 of "The Ship's Closet" on Youtube, and I had TMP on my iPod, so I was thinking about Spock's characterization. Somebody had to write something like this, so I obliged.
