She presses herself against the glass harder, until her teeth are scraping against the wall. There's a thin line of blood, crossing from her lip to his, on the other side of the glass. She can't open her left eye because it's bruised and she's afraid her eyelashes are stuck together, so she doesn't even try.
"I love you," she tells him, fogging up the glass. It looks pink like that, with her bloody spit all over the reflection, and her brown eye staring back at her. Proton lets his hand drop against hers, and she curls against the wall, pressing desperately to try and feel the warmth from his palm. It doesn't work, and her tears burn when they slide against the raw skin of her face. Her left eye unpeels and opens and it aches –
"Does it hurt?" he asks, in his kind way, circling her eye with his thumb, leaving the smallest of vapor trails behind his fingers. He must be so warm—
"No," she says, and it's not even a lie, because when she's this close to him she can't feel anything but the immense gratitude of being so close to the deity he is. "No, no – "
"We'll have to fix that," he replies, with the most beautiful of smiles she has ever seen. And if it means he is about to lean over from behind that countenance, to press his flesh against hers again, to make her spill and truly feel, well –
Who is she to say no?
