"I don't know why he's so affected by this case." James commented to Jean after watching Robbie walk out.

"Well it was the case he was investigating when Val was killed, he'd never left a case before and now with more murders I think he somehow thinks it's his fault for not finishing the investigation before when only Chloe was hurt." Jean replied sighing.

"I know that but I mean the original team got to the bottom of it."

"But remember there were never any convictions."

"I know but none of that's Robbie's fault."

"Try telling him that, I tried yesterday and it got me no where."

"I have tried, repeatedly and like you it's got me no where."

"Well I think we're going to have to let him sulk and solve this case because I don't think anything we can do or say is going to help just now." Came Jean's voice of reason, the voice that he and Robbie so frequently got annoyed at when she told them the truth despite the fact that out of work they were a tight knit friendship group.

"I thought he was doing okay ma'am." James finally gave up what was most bothering him.

"He is, surely you see that you're the one that spends the most time with him."

"Yeah he is most of the time but it's time like this that makes me wonder just how okay he is."

"His wife was killed, I think reminders are always going to get to him but as far as I can see he looks happy enough, correct me if I'm wrong though."

"Yeah I suppose you're right, I wish he'd give love another go though he's always flirting but the moment anyone reacts he shies away and goes into what can only be described as moping."

"I know but we both know that that's going to take a while."

"Val died 10 years ago, how long does it take to get over someone?"

"How long is a piece of string? Have you ever been properly in love with someone that it felt like fireworks going off inside your heart when they even looked at you?" Jean asked him.

"No."

"Well that's how it was between Robbie and Val, you don't get over a love like that over night."

"What about Laura?"

"It's a dance of one step forward a dozen backwards with them, but she feels about him what he felt about Val."
"Do you think they'll ever get it together?"

"Who knows, anyway that crisis is for the future, how are we going to deal with this one?"
"Leave it to me ma'am, I have a plan."
"Why does that worry me, do what you have to do but I don't want anymore complaints on my desk, okay?"

"Of course ma'am, we'll be on our best behavior."

"Yeah right, anyway I'm off home. Night James."

James stood looking at the case files spread out around him and a series of pictures sat in a pile in the corner of the room and that was it, mind made up. Operation Cheer Robbie Up was in full swing.
