Okay, so here goes my second fanfic. It's a NejiTen fic and it's possibly going to be longer than my other one (which I'm still working on, so feel free to go read it) haha i'm not below advertising my other stories. The title may change cause i'm not completely satisfied with it... So anyway, the first chapter is never the most exciting, but i plan for it to pick up soon.

Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto etc...

Enjoy!

"Hai," the small brunette kunoichi bowed, the top of her bun-adorned head greeting Tsunade momentarily, "I understand, Hokage-sama."

"Report to the main gate at 9:00 sharp tomorrow morning to meet your teammate. And remember, this two-person mission is an extremely difficult A-Rank that could save or destroy this entire village. Do not screw this up." There was an edge to the older woman's voice, demanding nothing short of a satisfactory mission report upon completion.

Tenten turned, and, with one last respectful bow, turned the knob and yanked open the door. She made her way down to the street, but then hopped to the rooftops, not in the mood to run into anyone she knew.

She unlocked her apartment and slipped off her sandals, flicking on the lights as she entered the kitchen. She then proceeded to make herself some cereal for dinner, managing to use up a whole roll of paper towels in the process, and, by the time she finished cleaning up the mess she'd made, her cereal was soggy.

The kunoichi ate it anyway, flicking off the lights after putting her bowl in the sink and padding into the bathroom to brush her teeth. Five minutes later, Tenten was in her pajamas and lying in bed, wide awake and staring out the window at the moonlight hitting the neighboring roofs.

It had been like this every night since… that mission. She would train until her body was on the verge of collapse, then come home and lie in bed until her thoughts were eradicated by mind-numbing exhaustion and she fell into the release of sleep.

As she lay there, Tenten jerked her mind away from the painful circles it ran in by wondering who her teammate would be. Tsunade would have chosen someone logical and precise, to keep the somewhat haphazard weapons mistress in line. Probably someone emotionless, who couldn't care less about Tenten's feelings and just get the mission done. Pushing that, too, from her mind, she concentrated on safer thoughts and slowly sank into sleep.

8:57 in the following morning found Tenten hurriedly shoving blankets, food extra kunai, and a first-aid kit into her backpack. Checking her weapons pouches and scrolls, she gave her empty apartment a last surveying glance before jumping out the window and onto the nearest roof.

Sending chakra to her feet for a speed boost, Tenten leapt from roof to roof, rushing towards the main gate and scolding herself for her tardiness. It wasn't until she was about fifteen feet from the gate that she spied her teammate in the misty morning. She stopped in her tracks in the middle of the broad road (by now, she'd switched to weaving through the streets, contemplating the man standing next to the Fifth.

"Neji!" she called out and quickly closed the space between them. He gave her a nod in greeting.

"Good, now that you're both here, take the scroll and get going. Good luck and come back safely." The Hokage poofed back to her office, leaving the duo with nothing left to do but get going.

With unspoken flawless timing, the result of years of training and missions together, they ran out the gate and into the cover of the forest, leaping from tree to tree with inhuman stealth, carefully hiding their chakra. This was a secret mission, after all…
