A Harry Potter fan fic about what was going on at Hogwarts when Harry was competing in the third task
Ron stared at the edge of the maze, right where his best friend had disappeared into just minutes ago. Hermione sat next to him, in the stands, wringing her hat in her hands. They sat there in silence, though the crowd around them was jabbering excitedly. Ron could see some of the teachers patrolling the edges of the hedge, including Professor Moody, who seemed to be staring at the hedge particularly hard with his strange eye.
"Oh, Ron! Do you think that Harry is okay?" Hermione finally broke her silence.
"Of course he is! You know Ha-" but Ron was cut off as a piercing scream shattered the apprehensive air. "That sounded like Fleur!" Ron gasped. Hermione gave him a strange glare then looked again at the maze.
"I hope she's okay..." She reluctantly said.
Ron looked at the entrance to the maze and saw Professor Dumbledore conversing actively with Professors McGonagall and Snape. Madame Maxime was running over to their group. Finally Snape nodded, just as Madame Maxime arrived at Dumbledore's side. Professor Snape walked quickly away, around the side of the maze, and Professor Dumbledore said something quick to Madame Maxime and followed Snape. Madame Maxime frowned, then turned and walked in the opposite direction, to where the rest of her students were sitting. Ron looked at Hermione who shook her head slightly. Suddenly her eyes opened wide.
"Look!" She shouted. Ron turned around quickly and saw a stretcher held by Professors Dumbledore and Snape emerging from the entrance of the maze.
From where he sat Ron couldn't see who was on the stretcher, but just then Madame Maxime ran over to it and started shouting, "Fleur! Fleur! What has you done to her!?!"
When Ron looked again he saw that Madame Maxime was right - it was Fleur on the stretcher. He gasped. The whole crowd's attention was directed on the huddle of teachers and the stretcher, when Ron happened to glance back at the maze. He started to look away again, then had to do a double take. Some of the hedges in one part of the maze were moving. Ron nudged Hermione and pointed to the moving plants. She stared at the maze, and back at Ron, then back at the maze again. Her face suddenly became determined and she shouted as loud as she could, "Look at the maze!" The students and teachers, as one, swiveled their head's toward the maze and became silent. As all the talking ceased, a noise could be heard from the moving hedges. It was an angry sound, what sounded like screams mixed with the voice of one person shouting.
"Harry?" Hermione whispered in Ron's ear. He shrugged his shoulders. Then suddenly the noise stopped. The whole crowd seemed to hold its breath. Then, silently, a stream of red sparks flew up into the air. Everyone gasped as one. The teachers all started moving at once toward the red sparks. There was complete silence as Victor Krum was rushed out of the entrance. Every one gasped again but then someone shouted, "It's okay! He has only been stupefied!" The crowd breathed again. Then, slowly, he old babble started again. Ron turned to Hermione.
"What do you think is happening now?" For once Hermione had nothing to say, she just shook her head. The minutes passed on and on with nothing happening. Ron watched the Professors, but they seemed just as anxious.
