If asked, Ogata could place his finger on the exact moment he began to envy Shindou's relationship with Touya Akira.
It was four-thirty-eight on a Monday afternoon, and Akira had just left the go salon to go out for ramen with Hikaru.
He'd felt disquieted, slightly sick, and it took him only a few moments before he realized why. He'd never been one to wallow in denial.
Or self-pity, for that matter.
But he indulged in it a few weeks later.
Four-eighteen on a rainy Thursday, he stood waiting in front of the elevator, due to an appointment in twelve minutes.
The doors slid open silently, his reflection splitting and pulling apart, and he faced the two teens inside.
Shindou Hikaru and Touya Akira.
The former pressed into the side of the elevator by the latter, mouths latched in a hungry kiss, both making small needy sounds that echoed in the new silence.
Akira's hair was rumpled and hanging across his face, locks dark against the sheen of his and Hikaru's skin. His slender, professional fingers were wrapped tightly against Hikaru's wrists, white-knuckled.
Ogata looked away.
Four-nineteen on a rainy Thursday and he took the stairs,
If asked, Ogata could place his finger on the exact moment he knew who Akira belonged to.
But it wasn't him and so it's better not to ask.
