Disclaimer: I don't own Spock or Nurse Chapel

A little snippet that didn't fit into "The Vulcan". If you want to see the battle scene (really awesome in my own humble opinion *cough* *cough* go to "The Vulcan" chapter 5).

Worse than Klingons

Nurse Chapel's finger tips were resting against Spock's as she inspected the burns on his hands. Spock was doing his best to block the nurse's emotions, but the pain in his hands was making complete mental control difficult.

Across the unavoidable link he felt...Curiosity, attraction, longing...

Spock decided fighting Klingons was preferable to this treatment.

"You should have come to us first, Lieutenant Commander..." Nurse Chapel said.

Obviously she was mistaken; his first duty was to the ship and the captain. He lifted an eyebrow at her...

...and felt her attraction peak through the link. This was expressly not want he wanted. His stomach had been feeling queasy since she began her examination. Now he felt like throwing up.

"Burns are still the most difficult injuries to treat," she said mercifully removing her hands...but not before Spock felt a wave of loneliness and regret...

After applying a burn salve and bandaging his hands Nurse Chapel looked up at him. "Are you sure you're alright Lieutenant Commander? It was your first combat experience and you lost two members of your away team. It would be normal if you were...upset."

Spock's adrenaline level had returned to normal over an hour ago, all other neurochemicals seemed to be at acceptable levels. His heart rate and breathing were perfect. He hadn't been attached to the two crew members that had died. He could only think of them in some sort of vague abstract way. Nor did he ponder what might have happened to him.

But except for Number One and Pike everyone seemed determined to ask him if he was "alright" and "okay" even after he informed them his injuries were only of a superficial nature. Not only did he not appreciate queries of an emotional nature from people he regarded as strangers, he also was alright.

His nostrils flared in aggravation he was unable to contain.

"Is there anything more you need?" Nurse Chapel asked coming closer to where Spock was sitting.

Spock slipped off the med bed. "I assure you, the pain in my hands is quite manageable. Now if you excuse me..."

She stepped in front of him. "That isn't what I mean. I mean is there anything you need...emotionally?"

Spock blinked. It was amazing how much she looked like a blond version of Number One.

"If you need to talk about it, I'm right here." Chapel said taking a step closer.

Spock would have raised a disapproving eyebrow, but he remembered how that had affected her. Number One had once referred to Chapel as her "evil doppelganger". Spock was beginning to understand the sentiment...Nurse Chapel seemed to be using her emotional queries to make advances of a romantic nature...

...under the circumstances Spock was feeling that annoyance was extremely logical.

"Excuse me," He said stiffly striding around her and out the door without looking back.

A/N:

Nurse Chapel as Number One's evil doppelganger, you know she is! Not sure if this will be a series of Drabbles that don't fit into "The Vulcan" or if it will be a one shot.
