Prologue
Around me parents walked with their children and teenagers gave quick kisses on the cheek to avoid embarrassment. Smiles lit up faces as everyone took it all for granted. My eyes were weak, but I was not blind. The gym was looming in front of me, the sanctuary, the kingdom that I had built over the years. Beyond those doors dreams could soar higher than the highest could, or come crashing down into the harsh reality. Many generations had passed before me, but none as noticeable as the one currently before me. There were six of them, six young men and women who would leave their mark on the world, some together, some alone.
The quiet tutor, my personal favorite. Lost in the bustle of her large family, she had made an home and family in this group. Rational, calm, and a tad bit quirky, she was Haley James.
Then there was the father, Jake Jygelski. His daughter, Jenny, is the light of his life, the source that drives him to succeed in everything he does. Rational and calm as well, he was a bit more level-headed than Ms. James.
Then there was Brooke, Brooke Davis. The unwanted child who made this group the only family she wanted. A substitute mother to Jenny, she was loud and outspoken, always one to voice her opinion. A tad bit bossy a pushy, but a real sweetheart on the inside.
There was Luke too… Lucas Scott. Son of Dan Scott and Karen Roe, half brother to Nathan Scott. Always the broody boy, he shied away from his basketball star fame. He was the protector, the oldest, the "big brother" to everyone.
Then we had Peyton Sawyer. Our regular tortured artist and cheerleader. She lost her mother in a car accident when she was younger, leaving her to be guarded and distant at times.
Finally we had Nathan Scott, our resident bad boy. Your typical rebellious, jackass basketball star. Son to Dan and Deb Scott and half brother to Lucas Scott, also secretly in love with none other than our Haley James. After befriending her in his sophomore year, he changed. Gone was the rebellious jackass and instead there was the cocky, easygoing boy.
These six were beginning their senior year, their final year at Tree Hill High.
