Authors Note: Hey. So this is the very first Jarlie fic I wrote and I decided to post it as a 'sorry for updating so slowly on Gentle Motions, I'll try harder' type of deal. It's only short but it's my take on what Joey was thinking right before she went to see Charlie in the episode where they finally get together in Charlie's car. I hope you enjoy it. I think it really fits why Joey keeps going back to Charlie, no matter how many times she's rejected, and why Charlie can't get Joey out of her head. Review please.

Another Chance.

"Trust your breath in me for a moment, we'll lose the world."

The song blared from the radio.

Their song.

Joey sighed as she lay on her bed at Brett's. It had almost seemed like there was something going on earlier on the docks. Like Charlie was gonna say something important but didn't know how to say it. She'd been called away before she could and Joey was left wondering.

So, what to do?

"Come lose your trust in me for a moment girl, you'll escape the world."

She sighed. She was due to leave on a trawler tomorrow for a three month trip. All she had left to do was accept the job.

But did she want to?

If she took the job she'd be gone for months. She wouldn't get to see Charlie. That was what hurt most. At least at the moment she could catch a glimpse of Charlie around. If she went on the long haul she wouldn't have that. But it hurt. Seeing the women who broke her heart killed her but she needed Charlie, kinda like a drug. Her own personal brand of heroin.

Joey sighed again.

"Love only hurts."

The song finished and Joey got up to turn the radio off.

It had honestly looked like Charlie was about to say something huge before, something about them.

Had she changed her mind?

Joey felt hope flare to life in her chest, filling her heart. If Charlie had changed her mind…

Joey stood up. She couldn't leave town without knowing what Charlie had been going to say.

[ She said she broke her heart too. What did she mean? ] Joey wondered.

Her mind made up she yelled out that she was going to Adain's so her brother wouldn't freak, then she walked out the door and headed over to Leah's to see Charlie.

If they didn't talk now, they wouldn't get another chance.
