Cupcakes
A shrill giggle rang from the far side of the Great Hall. Lily Evans stood, holding a small box of pink frosted cakes in her left hand and quickly scratching out a reply for the barn owl that was sitting on her shoulder to deliver. Her two best friends, Alice and Marlene, crowded around her, poking at the treats. She tied the finished note to the owl's leg, trying to hold the pastries over her head.
"What are they?" Alice asked.
"Cupcakes!" Lily smiled, lifting one out of the box. She left the package on the table, where Alice and Marlene raided it, pulling one out for them. Lily lifted hers to her mouth, prepared to take a bite of the vanilla and strawberry flavored cupcake when two strong, familiar arms wrapped around her waist from behind. She jumped, startled, and smashed the bright icing onto her face. James Potter laughed into her ear.
"Happy birthday," he said, smirking as she tried to clean her face. She turned towards him in his arms, licking her lips. Her eyebrows were raised and she was very obviously angry. She lifted the small cake, rubbing it across his face.
"Lily! Look at what you did!" He shouted, jumping back and frantically rubbing his face. Sirius stood behind him, laughing at his current predicament. Lily smiled charmingly.
"Here, you missed a spot," she told him, standing on tiptoe to reach his lips. Sirius wolf whistled and Alice squealed while Remus fought to keep a grin off of his face. Lily pulled away reluctantly, smacking her lips together.
Sirius doubled over in laughter as she said, "Mmm… you taste like strawberry icing." She winked.
