"You kissed me." Rose said as she walked into the control room after having changed out of her Roman dress.
The Doctor looked at her from his place under the console. His expression a little more than surprised.
"What?" The Doctor asked still staring at her with wide eyes.
"I said 'you kissed me'." Rose repeated.
"Did I? When?" the Doctor knew what Rose was going on about, but he felt a little awkward now that Rose wanted to ask him about it.
"Earlier, after I changed you back after being a statue for God-knows-how-long." Rose explained.
The Doctor thought about his answer before replying. "No," he said finally, "Doesn't ring any bells."
"Really? But you did!" She paused. "You just don't want to talk about it. You think you can avoid the subject by saying 'no'." Rose told him
The Doctor sighed. 'How does she do that?' he thought to himself before speaking. "All right fine, I kissed you. Happy now?" the Doctor said, getting slightly annoyed that Rose wouldn't let the subject drop.
"Not quite. Why did you kiss me?" Rose asked.
'Because I love you.' The Doctor thought. He almost said it, but changed his mind, before the words had the chance to escape.
"Because you saved me. It was a kiss to say 'thank you' that's all." Was the Doctor's reply instead.
"That's all?" Rose raised an eyebrow teasingly.
"Yes." Came the simple reply.
"OK, but the thing is Doctor. Normal people don't kiss people they aren't in love with to say 'thank you'. Normally they would give one another a hug or something. So why did you really kiss me?"
The Doctor sighed again and stood up in front of Rose.
"Because Rose, you mean everything to me and I don't ever want to lose you. Not now not ever. I don't know what I would do without you. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that; Rose Tyler I love you." The Doctor let out a long breath and waited for Rose's reply.
"You love me?" Rose asked. Not too sure she heard him right.
"Yes I do, very much."
Rose wrapped her arms around the Doctor's waist and hugged him tight. The Doctor wrapped his arms around her and held her close.
"I love you too, Doctor." Rose whispered.
The Doctor placed a kiss to Rose's hair and smiled.
After everything that had happened during the Doctor's life; he had finally found the one thing worth living for:
Rose Tyler.
