Life's fragility
Facing Ami's funeral cross, rain pouring hard on him, Chester wondered how it all ended up like this. His eyes were dry, and to his own admission, he had no more tears to shed, it was almost as if the sky was weeping for him.
Ami...
His baby sister...
How could she be dead?!
Why was she dead?!
What did she do to deserve that?!
He was her brother, he was supposed to protect her and where was he when Death came for her? Outside, hunting with Cless. What a failure he was.
It was weird, almost vertiginous, how life could suddenly take a turn for the worst, how fragile it was. A few hours before, his sister was smiling at him and wishing him a good day. Now, he was facing her humble grave, one he had dug himself. It was so unfair! Ami, the village, they were innocents and Dhaos' worshippers had slaughtered them like animals. He got up, took one last look at his sister's last home, before he ran to the Temple.
They'd all pay for this, Ami would be avenged, he swore it.
Or he'd die trying to.
The End
