Yuri sighed as he wiped the sweat out of his eyes, and surveyed the post-battle carnage. Three groups of monsters joined in that fight, leaving the combined stink of blood, sweat, guts, and tree sap to permeate the field.
"Fight hard?" a voice to his left purred. He turned to watch Judith walk over to him, her face carefree and easygoing, though her skin screamed "shower" and her clothes cried "laundry". When she reached him, she held out her hand.
"I don't suppose you could spare a rag to clean off my weapon." She said, twirling the spear once to get his attention. The spear was slathered in-
Well, let's just say it was very dirty, and leave it at that, for now.
Yuri shrugged and pulled a cloth from his pocket, handing it to Judith. Judith began to carefully clean the blade of the spear.
"Get a good workout?" she asked. Yuri grinned.
"Nope. Got a great one." He chuckled, feeling a nice breeze cool him down.
"I suppose you're right. That was a rather intense fight." Judith said, frowning slightly at a small notch in the spear's blade where it had hit a rather sturdy animal. "Everything happened awfully quick, though."
"Yeah." Yuri mumbled. "I barely had time to think about what I was doing."
Judith smiled as she finished cleaning her spear. "Do you ever?"
Yuri chuckled and balanced the blade over his shoulder, the flat of the sword bouncing lightly on his shoulder.
"I have no time to think." He said.
"That's the logical conclusion."
Yuri stiffened, and looked over his shoulder to see Rita, absorbed in a book, not staring at him.
"What?" Yuri mumbled, not believing his own ears. Rita was full of snark to begin with, but it typically came out in the form of a "shut up", not a carefully timed burn.
Rita turned, brows furrowed in annoyance.
"What? I just finished figuring out just how much stronger I've gotten since I left Aspio." She said. She turned, waving Yuri away, then placed her fist on her hip.
Yuri sighed.
"A coincidence?" He thought.
Sometimes it seemed like the Universe was conspiring against him.
