A/N - Just a quick oneshot I wrote for congratsyou'vegrownasoul (check out "Awakenings" - it's gorgeous).

"You shouldn't be here." Remus said as he opened the door. His fiancée stood on the doorstep, beaming up at him, and for the ten thousandth time that month, Remus wanted to pinch himself.

"Are you going to turn me away?" she challenged him, waltzing past before he even acknowledged that he no longer had the capacity. He shut the door behind her with a sigh and a smile, and followed her into the kitchen, where she was already making tea.

"What do you want, Dora? Because as far as I recall it's a fairly big day tomorrow and I was planning on getting an early night."

"Oh really? Funny that." She smirked, twining her hand into his and pulling him closer, "I just wanted to pop round to make sure you know; I have never wanted anything more than I want to marry you tomorrow."

Remus raised one eyebrow sceptically, the smile fading from his face as he said,

"You're checking up on me, making sure I'm not…"

"Regretting anything." Tonks finished for him. She had the grace to look a little ashamed, but Remus couldn't bring himself to be angry with her. He was the first to admit he'd had his doubts about the whole thing, but as her bright eyes searched his face he could not deny her a smile.

"I'm afraid my selfish nature has overridden all other parts; it would appear that, as of tomorrow, you're stuck with me."

"I dare say I'll be able to bear the burden." She replied solemnly, "It is a fairly beautiful one, after all." He shivered as she cupped his face gently in one hand and ran the pad of her thumb across a small scar on the corner of his mouth.

"It would be false modesty to deny that I have positive qualities, but I don't think you can count 'beautiful' among them, Dora."

She rolled her eyes at that, before a slow smile started to tug at the corners of her lips and she looked him straight in the eye,

"Do you think I'm beautiful, Remus?"

"I- of course, you're… unreal." He spluttered, and she looked triumphant as she replied,

"What about now?"

Before Remus could ask what she meant by this, he gasped as thick, white scars erupted against her smooth, pale skin. Two crossed above her right eye as another broke the soft skin of her lip. He watched one crawl from her eyebrow to her chin in an exact copy of the one that marred his own face. When it was done, she cocked one eyebrow, daring him to be disgusted, and whispered,

"Well?"

Remus was speechless, a thousand thoughts running through his head, the loudest and most terrifying of which being,

This could really happen. I could hurt her like that.

But you'd still love her, and she'd still love you.

And in that moment, he could not imagine his life without her. He could not comprehend how she could be so small and so strong, so young and so wise, so clumsy and yet so full of grace. All he knew was that this impossibly lovely mass of contradictions was inexplicably and irrevocably his.

"Beautiful." He breathed as he kissed her. He could feel the scar on her lip fade away under his as she smiled into the kiss. His breath hitched as she bit gently on his lower lip and she giggled as he pushed her against the kitchen counter. Her whole body shook and he could feel her uncontrollable smile press against his lips.

"What is it?" he asked eventually, pulling away.

She tried to look serious, but could not stop the bubble of laughter breaking in her voice as she raised the palm of her hand, covered in white powder.

"I put my hand in the sugar."
