Annabeth and Nico meet an Old Friend
*Event happens in The House of hades before Percy and Nico's convo at the end*
Annabeth
'Thank you.' Annabeth said.
'I didn't do it for you... So he's dead? ' Nico said. He had already begun to wrap himself to the Athena Parthenos. Annabeth was wondering why he was so anxious to leave and about what happened to Bob and Damasen that she didn't get the steely undertone to his voice. 'You could never be too sure with a Titan.' (and a giant she added to herself) she replied comfortingly while almost not believing it herself. She kept remembering the moment when Percy dropped his sword. She had seen (and heard about) him in situations, that if she was in them she probably would have passed away or out, like facing Polybotes, Hyperion in which he had kept his cool (and his sword) , had even made a few wisecracks. She then scolded her mind to silence. Nico merely grunted.
Then from the front of the Argo-II the loud sound gunfire was heard. Annabeth dismissed it as Coach Hedge bidding farewell to the guns before he, Nico and Reyna went on their quest to return the statue. Then Annabeth heard the hee-hawing. She was now positive that she was suffering from trauma due to her "little" visit to Tartarus but then Nico was frowning so she was a little unsure of what to expect, when metal clashed with metal.' They're donkeys.' Leo's static filled voice cried over the speakers.
Annabeth unsure of what to do turned to see Nico when metal clashed against metal and this time Argo II lurched backwards causing the Athena Parthenos to slide to the very edge. Nico by now realizing there would be more collisions on the way was unsuccessfully trying to untie himself from the statue when –
CLANG!
The next collision had pushed the statue into free fall. Annabeth watched in horror as the falling statue was about to pull Nico down with it when she realized that she herself too was falling. She thought not again while realizing that this time there was no Percy to save her. Nico suddenly reached out and grabbed her. But she knew that this was useless there were no shadows for Nico to shadow travel into. She braced herself for the inevitable fall when a familiar shadow appeared over the trees.
A shadow which had three heads. 'Oh! Cerebrus' she whispered softly, as the dog which had abandoned its post to save two of the only three people who had been kind to them. The middle head ripped off the harness which attatched Nico to the statue while the rest two grabbed him and Annabeth in their mouths. The Parthenos crashed into the trees destroying many of the naiads' homes (flattening "some" trees). The skeletal dog landed safely and deposited it's passengers onto the ground. Annabeth turned to Nico and mouthed. Nico nodded and a look of intense concentration came on his face as he crossed boundaries. After a minute a black circle appeared on the ground and Annabeth dug the Obsidian black ball out of the ground. She tossed the ball to the middle head of Cerebrus. And as it was about to begin playing with it, it whimpered. Nico understood its disposition. ' He cannot abandon his post for long' Nico said 'If Hades ever finds out….'. Annabeth nodded sadly and patted each of its heads.
The dog disappeared into a puddle of black. 'That mad mad dog.' Annabeth thought as Nico asked her 'How on Tartarus are we getting back on that ship? I can't shadow jump with the Athena Parthenos now because I have to be jumping later tonight.' As she was pondering the fact she heard the rustling of leaves all around her….
A second chapter coming through, hopefully.
