My Best Friend's Girl
Author's Note: Okay, so I'm thinking of turning my earlier idea for a Denna story "Searching For Someone Just Like You" into a Denna oneshot collective. This is a prelude of sorts to that. I don't know if you guys have seen Heart Like Mine yet, but this fic contains SPOILERS for that episode. At it's heart this is a Denna & Klare fiction, but the story will be told by Dave and Clare and will mainly include interaction with them.
The picture perfect power couple. Yup, I guess that's what they are.
Dave spun the cap of his orange soda on the cafeteria table as his best friend KC laughed at a funny story his new girlfriend, Jenna Middleton, was telling. He faked a laugh himself but he hadn't really been paying attention. Around KC he always tried to look cool, but the truth was Dave had a crush on his ex girlfriend. Sure maybe they only went out for a few days, but they'd hung out a lot since then, mainly with KC, and he had developed feelings for the bubbly blonde again. The more he got to know Jenna, the more he liked her.
Not that he could say anything now. She was with KC.
Scanning the cafeteria Dave's eyes fell on another ex girlfriend, this time KC's. Clare Edwards was sitting in the back of the room with her best friend Alli looking slightly depressed. She glanced his way and he looked away quickly only realizing after that she wasn't looking at him. Instead her eyes were fixed on KC and Jenna. The sadness in her face deepened as she looked down at her lunch tray. She seemed to always have that expression these days.
Wow, he thought he had it bad. Clare must be completely heartbroken right now.
"Dude!" KC's voice cut through his thoughts.
"Oh, yeah man. What?"
KC raised an eyebrow. "You want to see that movie tonight?"
That's right, KC had been talking about their movie plans. "Are you sure you guys don't want to be alone…" Dave smirked as he trailed off suggestively.
"You're the one who brought the movie idea up in the first place."
"You can always bring someone along!" Jenna piped in. Dave sighed. Yeah, except the girl I want to go with will be with another guy.
And that's when it hit him. "Actually guys, I'll meet you there tonight. There is someone I've been meaning to ask out."
Jenna's eyes lit up and a grin spread across KC's face. "Alright man, who's the lucky lady?"
"You'll see tonight… if everything goes well.
