So, this is just a short one-shot that I had bugging me. I just thought that Naruto would be damaged a little by his life of isolation, so this is my take on that.
Naruto doesn't belong to me. If it did, everyone would die.

"To be great, you must be mad," sensei says and Naruto just "Eeeeh?"s in confusion, while in the back of his mind is going freefreeneedtobefree.
So sensei tells him about Uchiha Itachi, and he can only think redbloodfreefreefree. And then they run of to training and he meets Sakura and Sasuke and he's just waiting and he can't wait anymore heneedstobefree!
So Naruto hops back home and carves pretty little patterns, and as the blood drips down his arm, he feels like it's his soul, and he's flowing slowly away from the whispers and the villages and the loneliness ohgodtheloneliness and he's freefreefree but then The Fox is there, and his arm is fixed (he'll never be healed, no) without a scar, and he's stuck in this damn body and he needs to be out and freefreefree, so he carves deeper.
The next day, when he goes to training, he's still covered in blood and just grins and says he was training. Nobody can tell.
No one knows because Itachi went mad because of the pressure and death, but Naruto is insane because he has to hide, always hiding. He hides his want to be freefreefree because they won't understand and he needs it and whatiftheytrytotakehisfreeaway? So he waits, and on missions he jumps into the fight first because he needs to be free and if they get there first they'll take his freefreefree. Kakashi tells him "reckless, reckless, Naruto. You need to-", but Naruto's already home and freefreefree.
So he hides in his house and tries to be freefreefree but hides it, and goes out in missions that slowly climb to A-Rank as he's jounin and comes home again because the damn Fox is there andheneedstobefreefreefree. The Fox doesn't let him.
One day after an S-Rank he's in the bathroom of his apartment, and the Fox isn't fixing because it's a lost cause, and he's bleeding on the once-white-tiles, and the world is fuzzing around the edges, and he's just thinking freefreefr-
