Well . . . it's been a while, hasn't it? So this thing just sort of popped out of my brain and since I haven't written any Solangelo yet and my love for it is ineffable, I decided to scrawl this out in about fifteen minutes. Enjoy!
To say the least, flowers didn't make the list of Nico's top ten favorite plants. They were far too superfluous for his taste and, frankly, he couldn't say he enjoyed tending to the gaudy gardens his stepmother, Persephone, had insisted he water twice a day while she and his father visited Greece for a private vacation to "get away from all the hustle and bustle of New York City".
Nico hadn't realized that standing under July's cruel sun for fifteen minutes with a hose could result in such dire consequences until he woke up one morning with a neck as pink as the blossoms on the mini rose bushes whose sake he had labored for.
"You need to put on sunscreen, Nico," his boyfriend, Will, lectured as he gently rubbed aloe onto the burned skin.
"Oh, shut up." Nico folded his arms across his chest. "I wouldn't know; it's not like I frolic in the sun as often as you do to know how sensitive my skin is to it."
"As a pre-med student and your oh-so-caring boyfriend, I have every right to enforce common health benefits upon you," Will proclaimed in what Nico liked to call "his professional doctor-y voice".
"I'm beginning to seriously consider kicking you out for the rest of the summer," Nico said, rolling his eyes.
"Noooooo..." Will fell to his knees and reached towards the ceiling. "But I've so much to live for!" He held a hand to his forehead. "Alas..."
Nico rose an eyebrow and put his shirt back on. "You should really consider changing your major to theatre arts."
Will's arms fell back to his sides and he sat crisscross-applesauce on the rug. "I've been thinking about making it my minor, actually."
"Wow, you've been thinking? About new things? That's impressive." Nico joined his boyfriend on the floor.
Will pouted. "If you keep being mean to me I'm taking the aloe and leaving." He hugged the bottle to his chest.
"Yeah, right." Nico learned his head on Will's shoulder and looked up at him. "You'd never do that; you're too nice."
