The inquisition had condemned me. I woke up bound to a cot ever so tightly, only my head and left arm were free. Before that I could move, but then there was only darkness surrounding me. Of course when I awoke again there was a light around me, and I could see the eminent doom above me. I remember there was a pendulum swinging above me lowering as it swung, but this was no ordinary pendulum. On its end was a sharpened blade that, I assume, would slice through me once it came down far enough. The deathly pendulum was sadly positioned over my heart those people, the inquisition, planed for me to have a painful death.

I remember becoming more panic-stricken by the second. I know that every time that pendulum lowered my anticipation became greater. I had looked beside me to see a small plate of meat, and water sitting beside me, I remember thinking that it was strange. Though I did not let that occupy my mind for when I looked up past the pendulum I saw a figure of time painted on the ceiling. Though, instead of carrying a scythe he was holding the pendulum. I looked away, unable to bear to look at it any longer. However, I heard a sound. I had looked over to see huge rats on the floor, thinking that they must have just entered the pit. I tried to scare them from the meat but it was of no use.

I waited for what seemed like forever looking at that pendulum moving slowly down. It seemed like it had been days because of that forsaken thing's speed; I could only pray that it would come quicker. I remember going to eat the food when an idea struck me. I looked at the pendulum it was moving in such a way that it would cut through the rope first, maybe I could escape then.

The pendulum moved closer to my chest. I was starting to struggle to get my arm free, so that I could used it to block the blade. I had the realized that it would never work, it had been such a dumb rashly thought plan. I remember seeing those red-eyed rats waiting for my death, so they could eat me for dinner. They were already nipping at my oily fingers. Though it was because of this that I got another idea, I rubbed the meat on the bonds that held me down. Maybe, just maybe, the rats would chew through them if they smelt the meat, I thought. And I was right the rats took the bait, ate the bonds, but the blade had started to cut through my robe and linen. I could feel a terrible pain, and still do. Even so, I was free! I had sprung from the cot just in time. Then strangely the pendulum retracted, those scoundrels had watching me! To this day I wonder if I was ment to escape or if I had escaped by sheer luck.
