a/n: First: this is a total crack pairing. Okay, so... technically, this is Phoebe/Leo. It can be read as Hunter/Leo. This is just something I came up with when I was rereading The Lost Hero. Basically, it's in between the time where Thalia and Jason reconnect and a little before Jason, Piper, and Leo get to the Wolf House. Also, the separate italic one-sentence parts are when the Hunters are fighting the Wolves at the Wolf House. I might make a spin-off about when Phoebe joins the Hunt... I don't know.

+standard disclaimer

++review, and tell me if you want a spin-off about how I think Phoebe joined the Hunt. Enjoy the story.

Pyrotechnics and Silver Arrows

(This shouldn't be happening. Not to you, anyway.)

You pull your bow out.

You close your eyes and beg the feeling to go away. You thank the gods Artemis hasn't found out, because if and when she does, there will be hell to pay.

It sucks. He's just the kind of boy you'd fall for, and suddenly you feel like Calypso. He shows up in your dreams again and now it's really irritating you.

You notch the arrow.

Talking to Thalia might be a good idea. She went through this with that Hades spawn already and she stayed faithful to the oath. You admire her for a lot of reasons, and her strength is only one of them.

And honestly, you kind of envy her. You've been in the Hunt since the myths were being created, but she's got so, so much more courage and talent.

You aim.

But he's everything you should hate, too. He's just like him, the whole reason you're even in the Hunt.

He's a flirt, but he's drop dead gorgeous, so that somehow makes up for it all. And he's hot, literally and figuratively.

He's a fire-user, something that both excites and frightens you. And you don't like the feeling.

His grin is still etched in your mind. You try that dumb old breathing technique, but it doesn't work.

This shouldn't be happening. Not to you, anyway.

You shoot.

Anger wells up inside of you. How dare a boy make you feel this way? You get the sudden urge to blow something up, but that's not that Hunters' style, so you decide to punch someone in the face. Of course, that was if there was someone to punch. No, the wolves and Lycaon don't count. Lycaon is Thalia's prey, and the wolves are too great in numbers to recklessly charge in.

Gods, you really need to calm down.

You didn't miss.

You shoot each arrow in a silent fury, eyes blazing with the utter hatred of males.

Why, why why? You don't think it's fair.

But was life ever fair to you?

Was Aphrodite ever fair to you?

Neither did Eros.

Yeah.

Didn't think so.
