I blankly stared at my counter, bored out of my mind. The Item-Check Girl, that's me! I am assigned the truly fascinating job of watching over the items of true knights. Promised job benefit – meeting some jacked guys my age. Of course my dirty blonde hair covered by an off-white, more gray as opposed to anything else bandana and my sapphire eyes would be such a turn on. And my green dress with bright red polka dots? Seeeeeeeeeeeexy. There's only one problem. No one EVER comes! I sighed loudly and buried my head in my arms that were resting on the counter.

Suddenly I noticed someone walk through the door into the Bazaar. I straightened up, almost knocking over my stool in my haste to get a closer look. It was a guy around my age with messy brown hair and deep blue eyes. He briefly stopped by Rupin's Gear Shop and bought a silver metal shield. Then he turned to me and our eyes met. My cheeks instantly started to turn red.

"Hey." He greeted. He extended a hand covered with brown leather gauntlets. "My name is Link."

"Nice to meet you." I yawned and shook his hand. "I'm Peatrice, the Item Check girl."

"Item Check?"

"Well you can't always carry all your junk with you, can you?" My eyes lingered down to his belt that sat low on his waist. He coughed and adjusted his belt slightly. Do my eyes deceive me or was his face slightly red? I resisted the urge to smirk. "I'll hold it for you so you can carry everything that is absolutely necessary for your mission. If you ever want anything back, you can trade it with something you don't need."

"Oh, I see." He replied with a grin. He pulled out a wooden circular shield from nowhere. "Would you watch my Banded Shield for me?"

"Yeah, yeah." I responded with a yawn. Why was I acting so bored? I could not tell you because I don't have a reason. This was the most exciting thing that had happened all month. I took the shield and hung it in a cabinet under my counter. "Anything else?"

"No, not today." He stated. "Catch ya later, Peatrice."

"Bye Link." I lazily waved good-bye. He gave me a small smile before exiting the Bazaar. The moment he left, my annoying blush started to fade leaving me with my normal pale complexion. I quickly glanced around to make sure no one was watching me before I disappeared under the counter. I opened the cabinet and pulled out his shield. It had quite a few nicks and cuts on it. Clearly this Link character used his shield quite often. I absentmindedly traced the aqua band along the edge. I grinned to myself, hugging his shield. "Good doing business with you."

"Peatrice?" A man's voice questioned. My eyes widened. It was my dad! In a flurry of movement, I placed the shield back in its rightful place, closed the cupboard door, and efficiently slammed my head into the counter as I straightened.

"OWWW!" I screeched under my breath. My hand went to my head as I tried not to cry from the pain. My eyes watered. "Yes dad?"

"What were you doing?" He asked, a slight tone of disapproval in his voice.

"Oh, just checking the inventory." I lied smoothly, plopping down on the stool. He looked at me suspiciously but he did not pursue it any further.

"Don't forget about the lunch we have planned today."

"Alright." I replied. "I'll see you there in five minutes. I just need to clean up around here."

"See you at the house." With that, my father left. I sighed to myself. Despite the fact that I was seventeen, he still treated me like a child. I locked the cabinet door and hopped over the counter, almost flashing everyone in the process. When I stepped outside, I had to blink furiously as my eyes adjusted. Far off in the distance, I saw a crimson loftwing headed towards a red pillar of concentrated light.

"Bye Link. Safe travels." I murmured. I skipped the rest of the way home with a newfound hope springing within me.
