Building the Perfect Team

After defeating the Elite Four and defending my Champion title a third time over at the Pokémon League on Mount Lanakila, I headed over to the Pokémon Center to relax a bit. That's when Professor Kukui walked in to talk to me.

"Woo! That was spectacular battling over there!" he says

"Thanks! It's all part of my skill building strategizing and picking on the opposing Pokémon's weakness." I replied. "It's something I've learned from an old friend."

"And who would that be?" Professor Kukui asked.

"Steven, the Champion of Hoenn." I replied. "He taught me everything he knows about skilled team building and picking on a foe's weaknesses and abilities."

I reached into my pocket and pulled out a picture of Steven. Right next to him was my Shiny Charizard, Drakaiser. I took the photo after defeating Steven in the Pokémon League.

"A Champion was your mentor? That sure is awesome!" Kukui said as he looked at the photo and nodded. "Say, have you been using Z-Moves to their full potential?"

"Yes, I have." I nodded as I showed the black Z-Ring on my left arm.

Embedded in the center of it was the Z-Crystal, Fightinium Z, the second Z-Crystal I got after battling Kahuna Hala.

"What Pokémon and move do you use it for?" Kukui asked.

"I use it for Dynamic Punch, a move known by Sonic, my Typhlosion I replied. "I only use Z-Crystals for moves with low power or accuracy as well as moves with certain requirements."

"Dynamic Punch? Your Typhlosion must have learned that in Johto, right?" Kukui guessed.

"Yes," I nodded, "I figured if Jaller, my Charizard, could learn a very powerful move in Kanto, then Sonic should also learn a strong move as well in Johto."

"You must be quite the expert in Pokémon battling and team building!" Kukui said.

"That he is." Said Grimsley as he walked inside the Pokémon Center. "He's also the lead authority on strategic team building."

"Oh, Alola, Grimsley, what brings you here?" I greeted.

"I came to see your full potential in a full 6-on-6 Pokémon battle." Grimsley said.

"Very well. Let's take it outside." I agreed as I headed outside with him and Professor Kukui.

Upon exiting the Pokémon Center, Grimsley and I sent out our first Pokémon to battle. He chose Bisharp while I chose Sonic the Typhlosion. Sonic easily defeated Bisharp using the Z-Move All-Out Pummeling. As the battle continued, Hedwing, my Noctowl, beat Grimsley's Scrafty with Moonblast, Dragoon the Haxorus beat Liepard with X-Scissor, Cruellock the Rampardos beat Drapion with Earthquake, and Omega-Xis the Clawtizer beat Honchkrow with Ice Beam. The final Pokémon left were Jaller, my Charizard, and Grimsley's Tyranitar. We both Mega Evolved our Pokémon. Though Tyranitar had activated its Sand Stream ability, Jaller's Drought cleared away the sandstorm and defeated Tyranitar with a fully charged Solar Beam.

"Spectacular." Grimsley said as he returned Tyranitar to its Ultra Ball. "You've improved a lot."
