Leo looked into the sea in front of him. The Argo II rocked gently on the blue rolling waves. It's mast, a golden retired dragon, glowed with warmth in the morning sun. Hazel screamed from in front of him as a wave crashed into the side of the ship. Leo looked back to see her clinging to the railing, her caramel skin growing pale. Leo grinned at her, his impish face contorting into a huge smile. Frank walked up behind her and held her steady. Leo looked away, reminding that he was there for Calypso, not Hazel.
He saw nothing on the sunset horizon, not even a scrap of land. This was what he feared. That he could never see Calypso again. But he refused to believe that. He had to find her.
He watched the horizon ceaselessly, his dark curls blowing around his eyes, waiting and waiting, night and day, for weeks. But still he saw nothing. He was beginning to believe it was impossible. Everything seemed to be against him. The winds blew in the wrong direction, and no matter how hard Percy tried, the ocean seemed to oppose him as well. Everyone was tired and hungry and grumpy. Even Piper, who could usually look on the bright side, was grumpy.
Finally Leo saw something on the horizon. Land? After all these days of water? Yes, silhouetted against the never-changing backdrop of water and sky, there was land. Excited, he stood up and hugged Festus, his dragon. He then skipped back to the controls, and grabbed his Wii controller, trembling with excitement. Piper appeared next to him.
"Land?" She asked him, also clearly excited, "We're finally leaving the boat?!
"Thanks," grumbled Leo as Piper ran off to alert the other six. Was this trip that bad?
Leo's excitement turned to anxiety as the island grew closer and closer. What if Calypso didn't like him anymore? What if…? He made himself stop. He couldn't bear to think these thoughts, not when he was so close.
The island was exactly as he remembered it. The jungle, the sand, the clear blue sky that always seemed to be perfect. He stepped off his beloved boat and onto the warm sand.
Finally.
