It was night, it was dark, it was cold and a certain pink-haired kunoichi was passed out on the road beside a cheap bar. She smelled like alcohol and her usually peach-tinted cheeks were pale. Her eyes were staring straight forward with a dull expression. In fact, the rosette wasn't really unconscious, but she was neither awake. More like she somewhere between in a waking dream.
A horn went off before her.
The girl tried to push herself out of the road, but her limbs weren't cooperating. She prepared for the impact. But it never came. Instead, two strong arms locked around her against someone's hard chest, and ran with her from there. It was a brunette boy, with black eyes and an emotionless smile plastered on his face. She tried to shift in his arms, but found herself safely secured. He steadied her on the ground and supported her weight, keeping one arm under her arms and on her back. She leaned on it, shaking slightly from the shock. Her eyes slowly opened to look at him.
"Sai."
It wasn't a question, nor an exclamation. It wasn't a statement, nor a negation. It was an answer. Her eyes grew big for a second, and then softened. She opened her mouth again as if to say something. But before she had the chance to do so, she turned around and started throwing up on the ground. Sai's arm locked under her stomach, and the other one held her head up. The brunette carried her to a bench, and left for some seconds. He came back with a bottle of water and some tissues, wiped her mouth and wet her lips. Sakura sat up and looked at him. And she wanted to ask - ask why? Why he was always there for her? Why did he pick her up and help her go on every moment she was on the verge of falling. But she didn't.
She didn't because he smiled.
