I'll admit that it's been a while since I've read any Animorph stuff, and what I remember is from the beginning of the series. This is probably from early on, before Tobias regains the power to morph. It's from his point of view, directed at Rachel, before they realize/admit they like each other (and they did in my fantasy world, so if they didn't in the books, =P *grin*). Enjoy, and realize I make no profit from this, so don't sue me.

Chains

What good can I be,
To you, my dear friend?
Always the one
That you have to defend.
An unneeded burden
Holding you back,
Waiting helplessly by
As you start your attack.

I'd leave if I could,
Betray my own heart.
But I sit here in pain,
Feel it tear me apart.
I love your bright smile,
The glint in your eye,
And how you never stop,
Never failing to try.

And then we have me,
Worthless to all,
Because I didn't heed
The Andalite's call.
I look and I laugh,
At what could never be.
There's nothing you'd like
In a failure like me.

You do have your flaws,
I admit that it's true.
But I find myself always
Returning to you.
You're there to listen,
You help me survive
When I think that nothing
Could keep me alive.

Curse all these ties
That continue to bind!
I just want to know
The love I can't seem to find.
But I can't leave you now,
'Cause I won't cause you pain.
So I sit here and stare
At my tether...my chain.
