This was written for Challenge 4: Picture This... at Fringeland on LJ. The prompt for this story was a picture of a swingset.
"What about Elizabeth?" Olivia asked as her and Peter strolled through the park hand in hand.
"You want to name our daughter after my mother? Besides, I thought we settled on Henrietta." Leading them towards a nearby playground, Peter sat down on one of the low swings, without letting go of Olivia's hand, and looks up at her.
Joining him on the swings, Olivia drops his hand as she grabs the chain and slowly starts swinging. "Hmmm. Nope. You decided on Henrietta—and won't tell me why, I might add. I on the other hand am not convinced. How about Harriet?"
"You don't know about Henrietta and you want to call our daughter Harriet? Really?"
"Well, maybe not. But I am just trying to give you other options. I'm just not sure Henrietta Dunham has the proper flow to it."
"Dunham? And why would our daughter be taking your last name?"
"Why wouldn't she take my last name?" Olivia asked with a smirk. "I'm the mother and I think it only right that my daughter take my name too. Now, if we were having a son, that might have been another discussion."
"And what if your last name was Bishop too?"
"What?"
Standing up from his swing, Peter reached into his pocket and pulled out a small cubic jewelry box. Brushing a strand of Olivia's hair behind her ear as he stopped her swinging, he got down on one knee and looked straight up into her eyes. "Olivia, we have been through so many ups and downs, lost universes and reclaimed memories. Through all of that, I have known that I want you to forever be by my side, whether that be at work or in life. Olivia Dunham, will you do me the honor of marrying me?"
"Yes." Olivia could do little more than stare at the ring as Peter slowly slid it onto her finger.
Getting up off his knees, Peter pulled Olivia from the swing and gave her a resounding kiss. "Yes?"
"Yes. But don't think this ends our discussion. Our daughter will not be a Henrietta."
