Based off of the movie: The Entitled (Twilight Version) (Slightly Different)
Prologue: Part One
Edward Mason sat in the office of Mr. Paul Archer. His leg rested crossed over the other as he reached for his résumé from his possible prospective boss. He carefully placed his résumé back inside his empty briefcase.
"You should receive an answer by the end of next week."
Edward rose from his seat, "I didn't get the job." He turned to face the bank's manager, "Did I?"
Mr. Archer couldn't bear to answer his question honestly. He averted his blue eyes from Edward and onto the ground. Mr. Archer's break in eye-to-eye contact answered Edward's question. As a desperate result, he immediately approached the supervisor's desk, "Please! You have to give me a chance! I really need this job!" Edward's cheap briefcase dropped from his hands, "I'll work for lower pay. I'll start immediately. Anything, I just really need this job!"
Mr. Archer rose from his seat, "I am truly sorry Mr. Mason, but my decision is final." He walked around his desk, and led Edward to his office door, "Times have changed. You're a college student; we want college graduates, who are a bit more reliable. Try applying for the intern position."
"But, you don't get paid for the intern position."
"I'm sorry, but my decision is final." Edward stepped towards the overseer in one last attempt to persuade him, "I really need the money. And I'm not like most college kids! I'm reliable, punctual and trustworthy! Just give me a chance!"
Mr. Archer pulled open his office door, "I've made my decision." Edward's head felt low as he lifted his briefcase. He finally caught the hint. No matter how much pleading and persuading he did, he wasn't going to get the job.
Edward Mason, a college senior at Seattle University left out of Washington Federal Savings, the same way he came in; broke and unemployed. He approached the bike rack and used the key on his keychain to unlock it. Edward kicked the kickstand up, "Just my luck," and hopped onto his bike.
This was his fourth job interview. And none of them were successful. He would quit, but he genuinely needed the money. Edward couldn't afford to not work.
As he rode his bike along the sidewalk, the Washington sky began turning a dark gray. "Are you serious?" He stared up at the sky as it started to unleash gallons of raindrops onto the busy streets of Seattle.
After much fast pedaling, soon enough he slid his bike to a stop outside of his mother's house. Standing underneath the porch shade was Isabella Swan, a college senior at Seattle University, who also happens to be Edward's fiancée.
She knew him well enough to be able to read his face, "You didn't get the job." The motion of his head shaking answered the question, "I don't know what I'm going to do Bell!"
She wrapped her arms around her drenched boyfriend, "We're going to figure something out together." Edward pulled away, but not before pressing a smooch against her forehead.
"Follow me." He did just that and followed her into the house, "What are we going to do about these?" She extended her hand and handed him the stack of mail, mostly consisting of bills.
His hand clenched around the never-ending stack of mail, "Bills. Bills. All bills!"
"That's a foreclosure letter."
At the mention of his mother's house possibly being foreclosed sent an unsettling ache to his chest. He could never come up with enough money to pay the bank.
"Is she awake?"
Bella's long brunette hair fizzled out due to the rain. She walked him towards the stairs, "Yeah, she just ate though. I made her some chicken noodle soup." Bella leaned against the railing and ran her fingers through her matted hair as she watched her fiancé depart up the stairs.
"Thank you. I honestly don't know what I would do without you." Bella smiled and nodded. She would do anything for that man.
He continued up the stairs, before coming to a sudden halt, "You asked me what I'm going to do, but I really don't want to have to go to that." His back remained facing her, "That has got to be a last resort."
"We're at the last resort Edward! We have no other options! We already took out a loan! We owe the bank over one-hundred thousand in student loans. This house is literally falling apart and it's about to be foreclosed! Not to mention, we can't even afford your mother's medication!" She ran up the first couple of stairs in order to meet him in the center, "I'm in Edward. I'll always support you. If you want to do it, we'll do it, if you don't, we'll figure out another way to get some money."
He turned around to meet his girlfriend's pleading eyes. Edward glanced around the home he's known all of his life. The floorboards of the house creaked. Raindrops occasionally leaked into the house. The wallpaper was peeling off. This house was literally falling apart.
"Do you think she wants company?"
"She always wants your company."
Bella's parents died during her freshman year of college. They were in a fatal car accident. Renee and Charlie Swan drove all the way from Arizona to visit her in college, but on their way back an 18-wheeler collided with them. Since the crash, Elizabeth, her boyfriend's mother took her under her wing. She provided her with the love and support every child and young adult needs.
"Come in." Edward cracked open the door, and leaned inside, "No luck?"
"No luck."
Her hand pat against the empty space next to her, "Sweetheart if there is one thing I love about you, it's your determination." She reached towards the nightstand and grabbed her water bottle, "You deserve a break. Lie down and close your eyes."
The Next Day
After locking his bike up on the rack, Edward grips the strap of his backpack before heading over to the courtyard. As he walks through the parking lot, he could hear laughing and muttering behind him. It always hurt to see everyone so happy when his life was currently going down the drain. Edward saw his friends waving at him from up ahead, but before he could wave back, the sight of Riley Biers parking his new cherry red Mercedes caught his eye.
Four girls stood waiting for him to turn off the ignition. Once the car was parked, each girl practically pranced in his direction. He leaned up against the hood of the car while mindlessly flirting with each female that threw themselves at him. To Edward, money did mean happiness. For those who say it doesn't, have most likely never been a day without food, were almost thrown out of their house, couldn't afford medication and couldn't pay for clothes and shoes. Riley's family seemed to have a lot of money, and as a result they seemed to have a lot of happiness. While Edward paddled his same bike to school every day, Riley basically drove a different car each day of the week.
Riley's smile grew even wider as he watched his four best friends - Rosalie and Jasper Hale, Alice Brandon and Emmett Cullen- approach him. None of them have ever worked a day in their life. Everything was truly handed to them on a silver platter. Edward was willing to bet money, -if he had any- that they probably even bathed in cash. Rich people seemed to flaunt their wealth. They didn't care who they flaunted it in front of either.
Riley Biers, a senior at Seattle University and the son of Grant Biers. Grant Biers is a very successful stockbroker. His mother, Diana, died of cancer, when he was at the tender age of six, leaving behind every dime she earned as vice president of Washington Federal Savings to her son, Riley. Grant was already making big bucks to support himself and his son. Out of everything to worry about in life, money was one thing Riley Biers never has to think about, and girls were the second. As long as he has money, he'll have girls. Riley knew that and he flaunted it. Riley drove around in cars that haven't even made it to stores. Out of his friends, Riley would be the first to remind the help or less-fortunate of who he was and how much he's worth.
Emmett Cullen, a senior at Seattle University and the son of Esme and Carlisle Cullen. Carlisle Cullen is a heart surgeon at Washington Medical Center. Esme Cullen is an anesthesiologist also at Washington Medical Center. Emmett is less obnoxious than Riley. He may not defend people against Riley, but he never insulted anyone. At least not to their faces… He does love flaunting his money like his dear friend. In a simple coffee shop, he would pull out a wad of hundreds just so everyone would look in envy. Emmett's dating Rosalie and has been since freshman year of high school. They were the power couple in school, especially since Riley was the ladies' man and Jasper and Alice didn't start dating until freshman year of college. Emmett always threw the best parties, mainly because his parents were never home. Doctors were always on call, day and night. Emmett never complained, he used it to his advantage. Every night, school nights included, he would throw a party, which gave Riley another opportunity to get laid with a different girl. Emmett never had anything to worry about and he never will, not as long as his parents are the top doctors at the best hospital in Seattle. He has everything, the money, the friends, the girl, and the cars. And just like Riley, he'll never have anything to worry about in the future.
Jasper and Rosalie Hale are both seniors at Seattle University, and the children of Bradley and Rebecca Hale. Bradley Hale is a very wealthy and successful judge in the state of Washington. Rebecca Hale is a popular fashion designer, who inherited billions from her father. Rebecca Worthington (maiden name) was the daughter of Nicholas Worthington. In his will, he left his two corporations, Worthington Consulting and Worthington Worldwide to his only child. The Hales don't have to work if they didn't want to. They would be set financially for the rest of their lives, their grandchildren's' lives and even their great-grandchildren. The Hales were the wealthiest of the group, but no one ever brought it up. The rich were in one group and everyone else was just in another. They never talk about money with each other, only with those who make a salary that doesn't compare to theirs. Rosalie Hale would be considered the nicest one of the group. She can be mean when provoked, but she doesn't insult the less-fortunate or laugh when one of her friends do. On a good day, she would even jump to their defense. She's the partygoer and the wild one, but she knows how to be the perfect angel mommy raised in public. Jasper Hale doesn't insult people like Riley does, but he does instigate it. He would point out the imperfections of any and every one. Sometimes even himself. Jasper doesn't insult people to their faces; he finds it more pleasurable to do it behind their backs. Back in high school, they were the rich twins who were always color coordinated. Students wanted to be friends with them, and siblings wanted to be just like them.
Last, but definitely not least, Alice Brandon, is also a senior at Seattle University. She is the daughter of Pierce and Jillian Brandon. Pierce Brandon is the mayor of Seattle and Jillian Brandon is a stay at home mom. Pierce made enough money to support himself, his wife, and his daughter. Although Pierce has the worst kind of wealth -the wealth that is based on the people,- he's saved up enough money where if the people decided against him, he'll be financially stable at least until Alice graduates from grad school. Elections just passed and he earned himself a couple more years of infinite wealth, but what happens when those years are up. He'll still be wealthy, just on limited wealth. He'll have the retirement money from his terms. Pierce preferred women who stayed in the house and cooked and cleaned. Jillian was the perfect woman for him, because she preferred men who worked, while she stayed at home to cook and clean. Alice loved the title of mayor's daughter. All she has to do is flash her name around and she could easily get out of a speeding ticket. Her father wasn't as rich as the Hales' but that's only due to the fact that they have multiple incomes. Alice did in fact have more leniency than everyone else because of who she was the daughter of, it just made being rich that much more fun. When Riley would insult or tease someone, she would always be the first to laugh and the last to stop. She made sure everyone heard her, because she always found it funny how people were limited to the things they did because of money.
Riley glanced away from his friends and spotted Edward, "What are you looking at?!"
Edward quickly turned away and headed in the direction of the courtyard. He could hear Alice laughing as she held hands with Jasper. He could feel Rosalie staring at the back of his head, with no hint of amusement on her face, as she leaned into the chest of her boyfriend.
Bella slid over, in order to allow Edward to six next to her, "What took you so long?"
"I got distracted."
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Jacob asked, slamming the newspaper down in front of the couple.
"I don't want to…I have to."
"Edward you know we're in." Renesme asserted, as Bella and Jacob nodded along to back her up, "And in the process we'll be able to teach those spoiled brats a lesson."
For the first time in what felt like forever, a smile graced upon Edward's face. He truly felt loved and supported by his friends. Edward picked up the newspaper and stared down at the large cover photo. Pierce Brandon, Bradley Hale, Carlisle Cullen, and Grant Biers stood in thousand dollar suits, smiling from ear to ear. The article was mainly an interview of each of them about how they had made it big, their careers, their family life, and their spring break plans.
Bella slipped the newspaper from his hands, "So, it's final?"
"Yeah." He nodded, staring off at the five rich kids joking around, "It's final."
-Tiffany.
