He prayed it wasn't too late. Kane ran to the locker room, hoping to God that Tristen was still crying on the floor.
Still alive.
She'd texted him only four words: "I love you. Goodbye."

"Damn it! Just wait for me, Tristen. Please."

"Kane?"

He ignored Mickie in favor of running to find Tristen alive.

Tristen held the knife to her wrist, crying silently. It was too much pain for her to handle anymore. Her friends had abandoned her after she kissed Kane. She had no one left.

You have Kane.

That was true. But she wanted her friends too.

A song on the radio caught her attention, and she began to sing along.

Please let me take you out of the darkness and into the light
'Cause I have faith in you that you're gonna make it through another night
Stop thinking about the easy way out, there's no need to go and blow the candle out
Because you're not done, you're far too young and the best is yet to come

So just give it one more try with a lullaby and turn this up on the radio
If you can hear me now, I'm reaching out to let you know that you're not alone
And if you can't tell I'm scared as hell 'cause I can't get you on the telephone
So just close your eyes, well honey here comes a lullaby
Your very own lullaby

"Why are you doing this to me?", she screamed.

"Don't do this, Tristen."

She turned to see Kane standing in the doorway, then looked away.
"Get out."
"I can't. I've already seen the knife."
"You aren't responsible for me!"
He walked in and crouched beside her.

"Actually, I am. I'm responsible for you because we're partners. Friends, Tristen."

Her hand shook, and he reached for it, grasping her wrist.

"Just put it down. For me."

She looked at him with fearful eyes.

"I-I can't."

"You can. I know you can, Princess."
"I'm scared."

"We'll get through it together. Just trust me."

Tristen shook her head.

"I can't do it, Kane. I can't."
"Yes you can. Please, Tristen. Don't do this."

Slowly, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath, relaxing her grip on the knife. Kane threw it to the other side of the room and pulled the sobbing girl into his arms.

"Shh. Let it out, Princess. It's okay."

"I'm sorry!"
"I know."

And there they sat, the sobbing princess and her unlikely hero, singing her a lullaby.
