Tonight's Question
Disclaimer: the usual stuff
Warning: light slash between Harry and Snape
If you don't like, don't read.
Harry sat there on the windowsill overlooking the moonlit grounds and Lake of Hogwarts castle. Harry often came up to the astronomy tower but he only went up halfway before sitting in the same spot each night.
Harry heard the rustle of cloth, the quiet tapping of footsteps behind him though he made no move to turn and see who stood so near him. He already knew who it was because they would always meet at this window.
"What is it like to love someone?"
The question fell from my lips in a barely audible whisper though I knew he had heard me. A question always made its way out as my greeting. Some times in was an everyday question like; "what's your favourite food; how was your day?". At other time a more complex question that required long explanations such as my question today.
Normally my question is random but tonight it is not. Tonight I was thinking of what I had been told by one of my admirers. Normally I would not dwell on this but she had told me that she loved me. I could not respond because I did not know what it was like to love someone.
The man behind me seemed to know what it was that I was thinking and did not question my question as he usually did before he answered.
he move closer, close enough that I could feel the heat of his breath on my neck as I shivered from an unknown cause, close enough that I could hear his heart beat strong and steady against the quiet of the night while I could hear and feel mine speed up.
This was not unusual as it happened every time I was near him now. This had confused me at first be eventually I had ignored it as something else that was abnormal about me.
"To love is to feel pain at the thought of someone leaving and hating you. It's the feeling of warmth spreading in your stomach when they say something to you. The speeding heart, the obsessing thoughts...the need to be held by them."
These words penetrated my mind like a drill to the earth. This explained every thing to him.
"If that is so then I am being led to believe that I love you. is that normal"
Strong arms wrapped around Harry's torso, pulling him back into a firm, warm chest.
"It is as normal as my love for you."
With that whisper Severus Snape turned Harry Potters head to place a sweet, delicate kiss gently upon the lips over the man he had fallen in love with since he had answered the younger mans first question.
What happened that night is anyone's guess, but let it be said that their fates were forever joined from that first gentle kiss.
