I saw a post on Tumblr of someone asking for the scene where Jane walks out of her job. When I couldn't find one, I decided to write one. I'm a little rusty on the fanfiction, but I'm so glad to have been able to finish something and put it out there. It's short, but I hope it's sweet.

Let me know what you think!

The whole floor was bustling with activity as the entire department got ready for fashion week. Seamstresses rushed around calling out to find the color they needed, or knelt in awkward positions to sew together a hem. Assistants rolled racks of clothing to where they needed to go, changing directions suddenly in response to the radio in their ear.

In the middle of the hubbub was Mr. Caplin. Clearly in charge, Mr. Caplin called out orders to those around him. His personal assistant shadowed him, calling the orders into the headset for those in other rooms of the building.

In a far corner of the room, Jane nodded to someone on the other end of the phone. "Of course I'll be there, I'm already on my way," as she spoke, Jane began gathering her things. She briefly confered with her immediate colleges, telling them what was happening and detailing what needed to be done. A short, 'going off headset' into her radio, and she began striding towards the exit with her phone in hand.

Just as she was about to get in the elevator, Mr. Caplin's assistant grabbed her arm.

"Jane, right?"

"Yes."

"Mr. Caplin has a question for you."

"Oh, I was just on my way out. My sister just called me and there's a family emergency. I have to-"

"He needs to speak to you before you go then."

"What do you mean, 'you're leaving'?" Mr. Caplin's decibel level rose threefold.

"I have to go. My sister just called me and she said that there was a... I just have to be home right now." Jane said, on the verge of tears. "The models are all set, the only thing that needs doing is the tech rehearsal in a few hours. It'll be fine. I promise I'll be back as soon as I can, but I just need to be there for my sister."

"Like hell it will," her boss said. "If you leave now, there wont be anything for you to come back to. I'll have someone else doing your job by tomorrow."

Jane is stunned. "But how can you-" the gravity of this moment is quickly descending on her.

"Fashion week is the prefect hunting ground for new recruits. You wont be missed."

"Maybe if I-" Jane freezes in place when her phone vibrates in her hand. Looking down she sees the call is from Lizzie, to tell her when the flight from San Francisco is coming in; when she will need to be picked up from the airport. The phone vibrates again.

"If you answer that call, you're fired."

For a tense moment the phone vibrates again while Jane calculates what taking this call will mean.

"I'm sorry, but I..." her phone continues to vibrate until she hits 'answer' anyway.
