There's just something about John Watson.
Dr. John Watson to be exact. The students of Brighton's High School couldn't tell you exactly why they thought so, only that it was true. As the Biology teacher he was well liked and respected. Managing to be firm yet casual with most of the students he taught. Despite this there always seemed to be something...off...about him. Which was strange, as at first glance he looks like one of the most normal people in the world. Yet when staff and students really start to pay attention, small moments catch their eye. Dr. Watson dodging walled up pieces of paper without looking, the hint of ink when he rolls up a sleeve and how the 'model' skull on his desk looks a little too real at times. Still, all the warm good mornings and boring jumpers usually stop any questions as they are deemed unimportant...until now.
As students were settling into their seats Dr. Watson began the days lecture.
"Alright settle down. Today we will be going over genetics," he stated. "But first how about a pop quiz?"
Students groaned and slumped down into their seats as he passed out the papers.
rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, it's terrible I know, but if you had studied over the weekend like I reminded you then you would be prepared."
"Oh come on!" One of the guys in the back yelled. "Just one more day to study teach, and I'll ace it promise."
John raises one eyebrow. "Just like how you promised to come to class in time if I forgot about your last tardy?"
The student curses under his breath as the rest of the class snickers at the witty banter.
Right as the last set of papers was being passed out a voice came over the intercom.
"Attention all students and faculty, an intruder has entered the building. I repeat an intruder has entered the building, this is not a drill. Commence lock down procedures and all students from the west side of campus may evacuate at this time."
Every student started talking at once and a few were outright panicking as Dr. Watson walked to the door.
"Silence." He commanded in a stern voice. "Everyone quickly line up and exit through the doors down the hall and to the right. Quick check, is everyone here?"
One student desperately called from the back of the class as students rose to their feet. "Madison went to her locker towards east campus sir!"
John sighed and dragged his hand over his face. With a steely look in his eye and a quick nod towards the now crying girl, Dr. Watson executed an about face and marched down the hall. In the opposite direction of the exit doors.
"Sir where are you going?!" One of the students cried out.
John only glanced back far enough to see a slight grin on his face and a dark look in his eyes.
"I'm going to find our missing student, of course." He replied as he turned the corner heading to the east side of the campus, while his class looked on with fear and confusion.
They later learned that the intruder was restrained by Dr. Watson before he could grab Madison to us as a hostage. John had bruised the man's ribs and broken his wrist in only two moves. Then calmly walked over to Madison and checked her for any injuries. The teenagers in the school had no idea that their friendly jumper wearing, tea drinking and jam eating biology teacher could be at all intimidating. But now they know better and when anyone asks why John was so well respected by every student in the school; especially the troublemakers, there's only one answer.
There's just something about him.
