Episode one: she looks like Karai
Location: Japan
Two women with long black hair and golden eyes stared at each other for two long solid minutes. "Look, Lin Fay, I have to have be checked out my stomach hasn't flattened sense Miwa and I'm concerned about it."
"I understand, sister. It's probably not that big a deal," said Lin Fay, smiling gently.
"I know but just in case would you mind taking my place while I'm at the doctors."
"I still don't get why you can't just tell Yoshi that you're going," said Lin Fay.
"I don't want him to worry and the hospital is kinda far away." Tang Shen told her in a gentle tone before opening the door and began to leave.
"I'll take good care of him and Miwa, Tang Shen," Lin Fay called while holding the baby. "See you when you get back."
Lin Fay smiled at baby Miwa as she went back inside to feed her. She just loved her neice.
-Doctors office-
The doctor looked at her belly and laughed a little. "Honey you're still pregnant."
"What?" Tang Shen asked, pretty surprised.
She showed her the picture of the moving fully grown baby on the screen. "Apparently when your first twin was born the second one stayed. Guess she was waiting to come out in the world."
"But that's impossible. Don't twins usually come out a few minutes to a few hours apart?" Tang Shen asked, trying to understand.
"Usually but sometimes the birthing process can break for one and the other can stay inside taking days or weeks to be born. It's called a delayed birth. We can do a c section or we can wait for her to come out on her own." The doctor offered in a gentle tone a smile forming on her face.
Tang Shen smiled as well as she rubbed her stomach. "I should probably inform my husband first I think a c section is a good idea through. He will be overjoyed to learn he's going to have a second daughter."
"I'll get the phone and we can prep you for the c section." The doctor went over to the phone and handed it to her.
Tang Shen dialed the number to her home and waited as it rang. She waited anxiously for someone to answer. Finally someone picked it up.
"Hello," it was Lin Fay.
"Lin, it's me, Shen," said Tang Shen. "I know now what that bump was."
"It sounds like it was good news. I can tell when you're happy," said Lin Fay.
"It was good news," Tang Shen happily said. "Listen, I need you to tell Yoshi, the first chance you get, that Miwa is going to have a sister."
"What?!" Lin Fay asked.
"Yes. It turns out it was a delay birth of Miwa's twin sister," Tang Shen explained. "The doctor is going to get me ready for the c section."
"Oh, sis, this is wonderful news," Lin Fay happily said. "Yoshi will be so thrilled!"
-After the call-
The doctors had sewed up Tang Shen and awoke her hours later. Her daughter was crying like crazy after her birth. She was a little smaller because of the room in the womb but the doctor found her to be healthy and informed Shen her daughter was fine. She even looked exactly like Miwa other then the size the girls golden eyes looked even closer to her other daughters.
"Hello, my darling," said Tang Shen. "I'm your mother. Welcome to the world."
"What would you like to name he?" The doctor asked.
"Her name is Hamato Marissa," Tang Shen answered. The doctor wrote down the child's name.
Shen adored the little girl her arms but then a doctor came over whispering to another one. "Miss Shen, there's been a fire at your home. There were no survivors found I'm….I'm so sorry."
Tang Shen's eyes were filled with tears. "No…. No…. Yoshi…. Lin Fay….. Miwa…."
The woman broke down in tears. She had just given birth to her second daughter and had just lost her husband, her sister, and her first daughter on the exact same day. Upon remembering her second child, Tang Shen embraced her baby warmly.
"I promise I won't let anything happen to you, Marissa. I promise, I will protect you," she told her baby.
-16 years later new York-
Marissa took a deep breath pulling her back over her shoulder she took a mental note to ask her mother for lunch money later.
It's had been sixteen years since they went into hiding Marissa had always enjoyed new places but she hates moving away from sensei Yang. She had secretly been training with a ninja master in hopes of being like her father. A konichi. Fortunately she had been initiated and had mastered her ninjutsu well but she was hoping to get even further into it.
"Do you have everything you need?" Tang Shen asked her daughter.
"Yes, mother. I have everything." She checked her blue eyeshadow. She checked over her red lipstick and made sure her outfit was looking well enough for school. She wore a long dress with lace on the short purple sleeves and that went up to her thighs the middle was light yellow white and the rest was purple she wore long stockings with a diamond design on the top and finally dark purple boots that went up to her ankle
"Good. Have a good first day," said Shen, hugging her. "And be careful."
Marissa sighd her mother was so overprotective it was getting ridiculous. She went to the door once they broke their hug and headed out to school.
-At school-
She arrived at Roosevelt high, her new school and headed inside. The hallway looked busy with all of the students getting things from their lockers and getting ready for class. Marissa found her locker and opened it to put away here backpack and books. Marissa suddenly heard a book hit the floor and looked to see a girl with red hair staring at her, almost like she was afraid of her.
"Uh is something the matter?" Marissa gave her a confused look as she walked over and picked up the girls book.
"What are you doing here, Karai?!" The girl asked, getting into a fighting stance.
"Uh….what? That's not even close to my name. And what's with that stance? We're in the middle of school." Marissa looked fairly concerned now but also very confused.
"It's called ninjutsu. You used it on me before," said the girl.
"I know what it's called. And again I don't even know who you are? My name's Marissa not Karai and I'm a new student here." Marissa calmly told her. She gave a frown she wasn't sure who this Karai was but obviously she was being mistaken for her. "My mother and me just moved here and her names Tang Shen so whatever your problem is with this Karai I'm not her."
The girl dropped her fighting stance and looked surprised. She gently retrieved her book and decided to give the girl the benefit of the doubt.
"Sorry. I guess I'm just a little jumpy. My last encounter with Karai was pretty bad to say the least," the girl apologized. "So let's start over. I'm April O'Neil."
"Marissa Hamato." Marissa put out her hand for her to shake.
April looked shocked, but she still shook her hand. "Nice to…. Meet you…. Marissa," she said. "Um, your last name is pretty interesting. I think I've met someone else with it. Could be a relative."
Marissa was confused by this she had never met many relatives with the same last name. "Oh I see. Well I better get to class so excuse me."
April watched as she walked off her thoughts wandered many different ways on the one hand sue needed to tell Splinter and the turtles about her and on the other she was still angry about her father. No. She had to tell them. This information was more important than her feelings. So she decided she would go to the lair after school. Hopefully they would listen.
-lair-
The minute school let out, April ran for the manhole nearest to where the lair is and climbed down. She followed the tunnel until she found the very place she was looking for. And, as luck would have it, Splinter plus all four turtles were home.
"April?" Donnie asked in confusion.
April took a deep breath and then spoke. "I may still be angry, but some things are more important. There's a new student in my school named Marissa Hamato. Her mother is named Tang Shen, and she looks almost exactly like Karai."
All of their eyes widened it must have worried her if she had come down here to explain that but a girl claiming her last name was Hamato and she looked like Karai this was so unreal.
"How is that possible?" Raph asked. "Splinter's the only Hamato left. And he only had one daughter. Miwa."
"And Tang Shen's dead. Isn't she?" Donnie asked.
"Unless she had a twin who was pretending to be her," Mikey joked. Splinter's eyes widened when he realized something. "Uh, sensei, you okay. I was only kidding."
"She did have a twin. Lin Fay. And on the day she died she was acting a little strange I tried to kiss her and she completely refused to do so. " Splinter said pulling out a picture of the twins from his room and showing them the picture.
"Wow!" Leo remarked. "Talk about identical. You can't tell them apart at all."
"If you know them well enough, you can notice little subtle hints," said Splinter. "Though they often go unnoticed but now that I think of it Shen hadn't been losing the baby weight like normal. Even her sister was getting a little concerned and then when I saw that day had been thinner then her sister….. how didn't i realize she wasn't Shen?"
"Sensei, that doesn't matter now," said Raph. "Right now, you have a chance to reunite with her. And you can bond with this Marissa. If she is your daughter, you can't pass this chance up."
"No if is really her I can't stop her life for me." Splinter went back to his room. "End of discussion."
The doors of Splinter's room slammed shut making them all flinch.
"Why won't he go see her?" Mikey asked, feeling sad and confused. "He loves Tang Shen."
"Some people show love by letting them go," Donnie sadly said.
"Well we're not letting this go. April can you show us where they are?" Leo asked in a serious tone.
"Sorry. I just met Marissa myself today," said April, shaking her head sadly. "But I bet you could check the school. They're required to have contact information on the students and their parents and/or guardians."
"That's not a bad place to start," said Donnie, smiling. "Thanks, April. And…. I hope we can see you again…. Under better circumstances."
"We'll see." April calmly said.
-After school-
Marissa called her mother. "Hey, mom. Sorry I was staying late to help a kid in my class with chess club and I was thinking about signing up to tutor a kid? Can you pick me up?"
"Sure, honey," said Shen. "I'm actually on my way out from work now. I'll be there in a few minutes. Wait there."
"Thanks. I owe you." Marissa said hanging up when she felt a presence. Almost like someone was watching her.
"Holy chalupa," Mikey whispered. "She does look like Karai."
"The resemblance is uncanny," Donnie added.
"If I didn't know better, I'd swear they were sisters," said Raph.
"Guys, I think she suspects we're here," said Leo. She held a ruler and throw it like a ninja star and hit Mikey.
"Ow! Hey!" Mikey shouted while coming out of hiding. "Don't throw things!"
"Holy shit giant turtle!" Marissa shouted in shock and a little bit of fear.
"Nice going, Mikey!" Raph shouted while getting in Mikey's face.
"Raph! She can see you!" Donnie yelled.
"Guts! Ninjas are supposed to be stealthy! This is the opposite of that!" Leo yelled in annoyance. "Ugh! Now you made me do it!"
She passed out from the shock of turtles in front of her. "Yep definitely not Karai…" Mikey remarked.
"Yeesh. She's worse than April when we first met her," Raph commented, looking down at her.
"Yeah but at least she didn't pass out. I mean come on were not that scary." Mikey said in a sad tone. "Well, not all of us."
Raph glared at Mikey while Donnie checked on Marissa.
"I just hope she doesn't have a concussion," he said. The girl did look alot like Karai she had a slight different pitch her voice and her hair was way longer than hers but she definitely could be her twin.
"She has a more gentleness to her than Karai. It's a little odd." Donnie looked at her for a moment only for the girl to groan.
"Dudes. She's waking up," said Mikey.
Her vision was blurry at first, but she slowly made out the shapes while Donnie asked her questions.
"Okay. Can you remember your own name?" He asked her. "Do you know what city you're in? How many fingers am I holding up?"
She blinked and screamed again trying to back away.
"Whoa! Whoa! Easy!" Mikey said, trying to reach out for her. "We are very friendly. We mean you no harm. Hi, I'm Mikey."
Marissa blinked her eyes shifting between them. "Uh I….. How…...how the hell are four turtles giant or talking or anything!"
"Well, we're mutants," Donnie answered, a little embarrassed. "Look, we're not gonna hurt you. We're friends of April O'Neil."
"Uh ok….I'm Marissa what's with the sudden visit." Marossa asked both confused and concerned. "Wait April. She's okay, isn't she? Did something happen!"
"No, no. Nothing happened. She's fine," Leo assured her. "She just told us about you because you have the same name as our sensei."
Marissa sighed a sigh of relief. "Okay. I see. Had me worried for a moment. Um I hate to cut this short but my mom's gonna be here in a bit so if you wanna come with me and meet her I suggest we take this back at my house."
Leo looked concerned. "Won't we be considered…. Kinda scary to her?"
"She's a very understanding and kind person very little scares her." Marissa smiled taking the blue turtles hand and leading him out just as the car came to the school parking lot.
The door opened and a woman stepped out. But not just any woman. The very woman from Splinter's old pictures. Tang Shen. She looked surprised when she saw the four giant turtles with her daughter.
"K-Kappa?" she asked in disbelief.
"Kappa?" Mikey asked. "What's a kappa?"
"A turtle yokai," Marissa answered. "Mom told me a story about them. But, mom, these guys aren't kappa. They're mutants."
"Mutants?" Tang Shen asked. "Like the ones in the tabloids?"."
"Yeah like in the tabloids except real. They have something to tell you." Marissa tried her best to explain what happened as she got into the car.
"Okay. Get in and we'll talk at the house," said Tang Shen. The turtles walked into the car and Shen drove off.
-Shen's and Marissa's House-
"Would you like some cucumbers or drinks." Shen asked from the kitchen well Marissa petted her pet turtle.
"Actually, we don't eat cucumbers. We eat pizza," Mikey corrected her. "Hot crust, melted cheese, hook a turtle up! Ow!"
Raph hit Mikey on the head for that. "Don't be rude. We're guests in someone else's home."
"We appreciate whatever you offer," Leo politely said.
Raph smiled when he saw Marissa's pet. "I've got a pet turtle too."
"That's cool ironic two. But she's not my only pet we have three ragdolls and a pet rat. Wanna meet them?" Marissa offered getting up to put her pet turtle in her cage.
"Sure!" Mikey happily said. "I love kitties. And rats are adorable!"
Marissa giggled a bit before leading them to her room were 3 cats laid lazily on the bed. Her room was blue and stuff animals laid on the floor.
There was also a white rat sitting down on the ground look around to see them.
"Aww!" Mikey cooed while picking up the rat. "So cute! What are there names?"
"The one on the pillow is Cleopatra. The black one is Demon and the white one is Snowbell." Marissa pointed out each one as she told him there names. "The rats name is Candy."
"Is it because she's so sweet?" Mikey asked while petting the rat.
"Yep she really is a sweetheart." Marissa smiled watching as the rat curled up in his palm.
"These kitties are so cute and fluffy," Donnie said with a laugh while Snowbell purred and rubbed against his face. "This one's tickling me."
Marissa smiled her mother came into her room with a tray of cucumbers drizzled with honey.
"So what is it you boys wanted to tell me?"
The turtles each ate the cucumbers and Leo told her, "Tang Shen, my brothers and I came to see you because our friend April met your daughter. After hearing her name, we knew we had to meet you."
"Why is that?" Tang Shen asked.
Leo gulped and said, "Our sensei is Hamato Yoshi."
Tang Shen's eyes widened in shock. Marissa's jaw dropped.
"Your joking. I thought he died." Marissa said covering her mouth her mother was in tears. Marissa quickly hugged her mother letting her cry.
"All this time…. My Yoshi has been alive. He's alive," Shen said as she cried. "Where is he? Why hasn't he come to see us?"
"He's back home," said Raph while stroking the cat.
"Ok take us to him." Marissa said in a serious tone.
The turtles looked at each other. They remembered what Splinter said before.
"Look your taking us to him. You can blindfold us if it makes you feel better, but my mother will see her husband or I will kick your butts here and now." Marissa pounded her fist.
Leo smiled innocently and said, "Okay, let's go."
-Lair-
Marissa was holding her nose while also rubbing her mother's back as they walked to their destination.
"I should probably warn you. Yoshi looks…. Different now than he did years ago," said Leo.
"I would assume he aged, but that's normal," said Tang Shen, misunderstanding a little.
"What Leo means is that he mutated at the same time as we did fifteen years ago," Raph clarified.
"I beg your pardon?" Tang Shen asked.
"He's a rat," said .
Marissa gapped at them why wasn't she surprised she walked into the lair and there and behold was Splinter.
"My sons, where have you bee-" the rat asked, and then he noticed Shen and Marissa. "Why are they here? I thought I told you to leave them-"
"Dad…." Marissa asked in an innocent tone before hugging him.
Splinter was stunned. Tang Shen joined her daughter and looked him in the eyes. She teared up again.
"It is you. My Yoshi," she said while hugging him. "You're alive."
Splinter could hardly believe it. His wife and his daughter were here. And they were happy to see him.
"Are we in trouble?" Mikey asked.
Shen let go for moment. "Why would they be in trouble?" Shen asked in confusion.
"They're not. In fact I was wrong and thrilled to see you and our daughter." Splinter smiled at her hugging the girl still hugging him. "I'm glad to finally meet you, Marissa. My daughter."
"You too, father. I had heard so much about you. I'm beyond happy you're alive." Marissa said she couldn't believe it but her father was here alive.
Splinter smiled at her, and then addressed the turtles. "Thank you, my sons. Thank you for bringing them."
Mikey hugged Tang Shen and happily said, "Welcome to the family, you two!"
Marissa snorted a little. "Is this normal for him?"
"You could say that," Raph casually answered.
"As long as no one calls me sis I'm good." Marissa answered in a calm tone waving a hand in the air. They laughed.
