He was being pushed into a dark square room. There was a chair and chains there. He was breathing heavily but he realised it and took control of his breathing. He was pushed into the chair by Jerome, the other people in the room were Mary, Abel, and Arlock. Arlock was talking to him, he couldn't hear what he was saying but he still remembered what he was talking to him about. Arlock was telling him that this was procedure, to be able to trust him. But it didn't matter, because he was still terrified. He had to play it cool f-for the sake of the mission. Mary was also there saying that it was all going to be ok. But he knew it wasn't but he still played it off. Jerome shoved him onto the chair. He put chains on his wrists and a metal-like-helmet on. Then the next thing he knew, there was pictures of blood, people screaming, fire everywhere, and worst of all deliora.
Gray awoke with a gasp. He sat up into a sitting position and looked around at his surroundings. Gray and his team were camping in a forest. That's right we finished our mission and Erza promised Natsu that we'll walk if he defeated most of the enemies. That was one of the stupidest bets ever. He looked around at his team. Good they are all still sleeping. He got up and walked to the river that was a bit further away. He crouched down at the water and cupped some in his hands and splashed it all over his face. I can't believe I'm still having nightmares about that. It's so stupid. He was too deep in thought o notice that Natsu walked up behind him.
"How long?" He asked Gray. Gray was startled out of his thoughts and turned to look at Natsu in surprise.
"What do you mean?" Gray asked trying to sound like he didn't know what Natsu was talking about.
"How long have you had nightmares?" He asked angrily but in a quiet voice so that he didn't wake up the others.
"What nightmares. I don't get any nightmares." Gray said and stood up and walked past Natsu but got stopped when Natsu grabbed his wrist.
"Gray don't lie. I know you are having them, me and Happy saw you having one last night at the inn." Gray sighed. Oh, great now Happy knows too.
"Listen it's nothing. It's not a big deal alright so just leave me alone already." With that Gray shook his hand out of Natsu's grasp and walked back over to where the others were. Natsu sighed. Seriously when is he ever going to learn that doing it alone isn't a good thing. The Natsu smirked. Well if I'm not going to be able to do it, I'm sure Erza is able to do it. Then he followed Gray.
The following morning everyone was up and was packing, except for Gray who was just waking up.
"Good morning Gray, did you sleep well?' Erza asked him as he got up and started to pack up his things.
"Yes, I did thanks. You?" At the corner of his eye, he could just see Natsu glaring at him but he ignored it.
"I did, thanks Gray, but are you sure you slept well it's just that you woke up late and you still look a little tired. Gray sighed.
"Yeah, you kinda look like you haven't slept in a week Gray." Lucy agreed.
"Look guys I'm fine. I slept perfectly well. Now are we ready yet? Because we should get going" The girls looked at each other concerned and sighed and then nodded.
"Alright, let's get this show on the road." Natsu grinned. He was going to have words with Gray later but for now he will just let it slide.
A few hours later, they managed to finally get back to Magnolia. Gray who was thinking if he goes to the guild, he's going to get interrogated so he said to them he's going to go home.
"Alright guys, I'm actually going to get home, you know long day." Gray said.
"Come on Gray there's going to be huge party when we get back, and there's probably going to be a fight to. Are you really going to miss a chance to kick Natsu's but?" Happy asked sitting on his shoulder.
"Mmmh. I might come back a bit later." He patted Happy's head and he flew back to Natsu. "I'll see you guys maybe a bit later or tomorrow if I don't end up coming. See ya. He smiled and waved and walked off.
"Does anyone know what's wrong with Gray?" Lucy asked concerned as they stared back at Gray who was walking away.
"I don't think he really wants me to tell you this, but lately he's been having nightmares." Natsu answered and the others looked at him shocked.
"What?" Erza asked.
"He's been having Nightmares." Natsu repeated.
"Yeah, I know that but I just didn't know that he still had nightmares. Do you know what they are about?" Natsu shook his head
"No, he wouldn't tell me. Happy and I only found out about them the night before at the inn when he was having one. Then last night he had one and it looked like it was a bad one. He kept shaking after I tried to confront him. He wouldn't tell me what it was about." Natsu sighed and they started to walk back to the guild looking concerned.
"You know the other night when you guys were over for the night, I woke up to go to the bathroom and I did see him tossing and turning and he was also muttering things. I didn't quite catch what he said though but the only words I did hear was that he said that it was for the sake of the mission." Lucy said remembering.
"Why didn't you tell us?" Erza demanded.
"B-because he woke up and saw me and made me promise not to say anything." She replied stuttering. Erza just sighed.
"I think we might have to talk to the Master about it. I think I might have an idea on what the nightmares are about." Erza said and they continued walking to the guild.
They finally reached the guild entrance and opened the doors and were welcome with cheers.
"Hey guys, how was the job?" Mira asked as they were walking to the bar.
"Pretty good. We defeated the dark guild, Natsu got most of them though." Lucy replied with a small smile.
"What's with the long faces and where's Gray?" she asked getting concerned now. "Did something happen.
"No, nothing happened to him. He's went home as soon as we arrived before." Erza replied.
"But why, is my beloved Gray alright?" Juvia questioned them, who was also listening.
"Well we don't really know if he is alright or not." Lucy replied.
"And what do you mean by that Lucy?" The Master answered looking concerned and was also holding a half mug of beer in his hand.
"I think that it's better if we tell you about it upstairs Master." Erza said. The Master nodded and the team went up stars to the Master office leaving a very upset water mage.
The team walked into the office and Master Makorav shut the door and they all sat down.
"So, what is it?" he asked the group.
"Well we think that Gray is having nightmares-I mean he is having nightmares." Lucy replied. The Master looked shocked at that statement. Once of his brats was having nightmares. This can't be good.
"Do you know what they are about?" He asked them and Erza shook her head.
"He hasn't told us anything about them." Then she sighed sadly and continued. "But I think I know what they are about." The others looked at her surprised.
"Well then what do you think child?"
"I think they're about when he was with Avatar, Master." The others looked at her confused.
"How do how know that Erza?" Natsu asked.
"Because Lucy said that the other night Gray was muttering about saying that it was for the sake of the mission and if they are bad enough to have him tossing and turning through the night then it must be about that then."
"Erza could be right. We need to talk to him then and get some answers. Alright?" they all nodded. "I'll try and talk to him and help as much as I can but there is a chance he will most likely to listen to you all." They nodded again. "Alright off you go and Natsu please go and check on Gray and see how is doing."
"But why me and not Lucy, I've got other things I could be doing though." Natsu whined and the Master sighed.
"Because Natsu the Master said so, and don't you hate seeing Gray like this, he is suffering alone and if you disobey him you have to answer to me." She glared at him and he nodded.
"Aye, Aye Ma'am." Then off he went with Natsu and Happy.
He was walking down the steps into the room. He heard Natsu's voice calling his name but this time it was muffled but he knew that Natsu had called him. He was really excited that they had come until he remembered that he was on a mission and they shouldn't be here. He needed to get them out and fast. He had to be in character for the other members of avatar but somehow, he needed to get them out. They were there, they were really there. He was happy about them being there but he just had to get them out or otherwise they're in danger. They were talking to him but once again they were more like mouthing things to him but he knew what they were saying. But he could here his own voice.
"So why can't you just leave it at that?" I'm sorry, I don't mean any of this please forgive me.
"fairytail doesn't exist inside me anymore." He had said. I'm so so sorry. Just please leave and forget about me. Just go. But they weren't leaving. Lucy came over and slapped him, he thought he kinda did deserve it. Then she started to have pains in her stomach and Mary came. Rationally he knew it was Mary's fault but he couldn't help but feel responsible. Please just leave he whispered inside his head. Suddenly he heard a voice. Oi bastard, hey popsicle, Gray wake-
Once again, he woke up with a gasp. He was sweating and tangled up in his sheets. Gray looked around him. He had gone home and decided to get some rest that's right. He suddenly realised that Natsu was in the room as well. What is he doing here? Gray thought.
"W-what… are you… doing here?" Gray asked trying to slow down his breathing.
"Gramps said for me to check on you. I wouldn't have come but Erza ordered me to and I would rather have my head kept on today." Natsu chuckled nervously.
"Why did Gramps send you to check up on me?"
"Because we are-we kinda told him about you having nightmares." He answered.
"what are you taking about Natsu? I said this last night. I don't have nightmares." He said slowly
"Please Popsicle you're not fooling anyone. Happy and I clearly saw you having once right now. We came in and saw you shaking and muttering things something about please leave and I'm sorry. Now I know that I don't really come across as smart but think that's a sign of a nightmare." He folded his arms and glared at the ice mage.
"Listen Natsu can't you just leave me alone?" Gray yelled and stood up but then suddenly black markings started coming up on Grays arm and kept going to HIS EYE WHICH MADE IT GLOW PURPLE. The air around them started to get cooler as well.
"Aahh… Gray?" Gray looked down at his arm and freaked out. He quickly got rid of it and the air around them turned back to normal.
"I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean for that to happen." He said quickly." Look you should just leave.
"No." Natsu said. "Not until you tell me what is going on especially after that. I thought you had complete control on it." Gray sighed again.
"Look that was just a slip up it was nothing so don't worry about it." Suddenly he bended over and held his chest and growled in pain. The black markings reappeared and Natsu was suddenly at his side.
" Ice princess? Hey Gray what's the matter." Natsu tried to sound calm but it wasn't working.
"I-I'm fine." Gray insisted but Natsu just shook his head.
"You are clearly not fine. We need to get you to the Master or at least Porlyusica." Natsu suggested.
"N-no I said I'm fine." He stood up but grimaced a little but regained his calm composure.
"You see?" Natsu shook his head and sighed.
"Seriously Gray we're worried." Happy sad sadlybut Natsu scoffed.
"Please I'm not worried."
"You see Happy. So there's no need to be worried." Gray smiled and he tried to get rid of the markings but they didn't go away.
"Ok come on let's go." He tried to drag Gray with him but Gray just stood back.
"Why are you being so stubborn about this?" He sighed and then wracked Gray on the neck and he fell forwards into Natsu's embrace.
"Happy let's go."
"Aye sir." He nodded and they left for the guild.
