Fugue
By SMYGO4EVA

He, Yuui, knew that he shouldn't feel bitter about what had happened. He and his other half, his twin Fai, have made it through the darkest of times, the chaos has dispelled from Valeria and Celes, Fai and his friends were all right, and all is well with the world, so what was there to feel bitter about?

In his deep slumber, his dreams would the ones that would forever condemn him, saying otherwise of his wishes. Chaos may have been gone from the real world, but it certainly hadn't left his mind. The memories won't leave him in peace. In his deep slumber, he relived it – suffering pain beyond belief from the long separation of his twin Fai while kept in the castle of the mad king Ashura, his dark eyes sparkling with sadistic delight with every drop of blood upon the porcelain snow.

What made it even worse was the fact that he could have had his revenge.

He almost did.

In the room where ice surrounded all feeling and all hope, where he and Fai, his other half, were finally together after so long, and where revelations were marked upon the faces of Fai and the group traveling beside him, he was weak physically, but he was not in the mind and thought. He saw that the mad king Ashura attacked the group and Fai with words and magic that was both bloodied and scarring in the heart and form.

Yuui wanted to destroy Ashura for keeping him in the frozen kingdom that was called Celes, for torturing him mind and soul with lies and visions of atrocities that the mad king had created for himself, and most of all, he wanted to save his twin from the monster that was once his dear friend.

He wanted revenge.

He almost had it.

It was nearly in his grasp, and then, in a split second, it was snatched away from him forever. The three that were there, Fai, the one named Syaoran, and the warrior called Kurogane, had fought him off, fighting as best as they could to preserve their own lives and hopefully rob the mad king of his.

Yuui had hoped that even in his twin's grasp, he would be able to land the final blow, the magic blindly as his sword of justice, that the madness that claimed Celes would be vanquished forever – but then the warrior Kurogane had rushed in and taken that honor.

Taking the life of the mad king, ending his life and freeing Fai from what had been a reminder of what the past had made of him, and what goodness was left of the icy kingdom corrupted and gone forever.

Now he is within the slumber that was long overdue for him, just as seeing his other half once more had been far too long to wait for, the fugue of two familiar voices in his head forevermore. Except in his sleep, he won't get to wake up.

Even in his deep sleep, it still felt as though he has been robbed of his one prize.

In the bottomless slumber that he is in now, sometimes Yuui wished that he had been the one to kill King Ashura.
