Damon and Elena were bedding down for the night when Elena finally decided that she should confront Damon on what was bothering him. Telling her nothing wasn't going to cut it one bit anymore.

"Are you going to tell me what's bothering you?" Elena asked Damon as she slid closer to him.

"How do you already know this?" Damon asked her with surprise.

Elena gave him a look and then smiled. "How long have I known you?" she asked him. "And don't change the subject.

"It's Stefan," Damon whispered for only her vampire ears to hear.

"Are you going to elaborate?" Elena asked.

"I don't believe the Stefan that came home is my brother," Damon said in the same whisper. "I believe that's Stefan's doppelganger or that Stefan is a doppelganger, Elena."

"That's ridiculous," Elena told him.

"Is it?" Damon countered. "Why couldn't there be more in this world?"

Elena stared at him without an answer.

"Stay away from him, Elena," Damon told her in that whisper again.

"But..."

"He's my brother," he reminded her.

Elena nodded. "You're just going t o let him stay here?" she asked in the same whisper Damon used.

"I'll figure it out, Elena," Damon whispered. "If I need any help, I'll have Caroline call Klaus."

Elena smiled then. "No one can fool Klaus," she whispered just as quietly. "At least not for long."

"Exactly," Damon said as he held Elena close to him.
