Disclaimer: I do not own Haruhi Suzumiya or anything related.
A/N: This is an experiment of some sort. I'm not sure if this will stay a one-shot or what.
Title: Church Bells
Synopsis: For who does the bells toll? Nay. They are celebrating.
------------------
Church bells ring.
You look up. You sigh.
You think about everything you have gone through.
--------------
"Nagato!"
You shout. Her familiar petite figure stood in front of you, impaled by spikes. From her chest gushed out blood, while she whispered a soft reassurance.
"I am okay."
----------------
You look around. You see many people.
There were some you knew, and some you don't.
But they all seemed to know you, greeting you with a curt nod and a smile as you walk.
----------------
"It's been a long time, Kyon-kun."
In this memory was a beautiful girl with orange-brown hair. She smiled and held your hand. You were confused back then. But after a few minutes of explaining things, you understood what she meant.
She was nostalgic as she paced around the room.
----------------
At the far end of the hall stood your friends, waiting for you.
One of them smiled as he approached you.
----------------
"Please watch."
You looked to the horizon as he pointed a blue giant.
He called it a Celestial.
-------------
You exchange words of courtesy.
"It has been a long time." He says. "Glad you were here to see it through till the end."
He looked to the girl beside you.
"Are you ready?" He asked both of you.
-------------
"My name is Haruhi Suzumiya, from East Junior High."
Up to this point, her introduction was normal.
"I am not interested in ordinary human beings. If any of you are aliens, time-travelers, espers or sliders, please come see me. That is all."
-------------
That is all.
But with her, you knew that that was never all.
She took your hand without asking you if you were ready. She dragged you to her own crazy world. There were times when you wanted it all to stop, but when you were given the chance to live a normal life, you declined.
You said that you were fed up with her. And yet you stayed by her side all this time.
And today, you were here, where the sound of ringing bells filled the air.
Rays of light passed through the stained glass windows.
You are nervous. You could tell she was too. You squeezed her hand tightly.
"Thank you, Kyon." She said.
"Haruhi." You whisper. "Take care."
"You too." She whispered back.
You let go of her hand. He took it and caressed it lightly.
"Thank you, Kyon." He said. "Haruhi and I owe you a lot."
"I know you will take good care of her. Like you always do."
He smiled again. But unlike the smiles he had in years past, this one was real.
As they walked toward the altar, you smile in nostalgia. You lower your head and sigh.
So this must be how it feels when you're giving the most precious woman in your life.
You realized long ago that you were too late to admit to her.
But at least, she's happy now.
"You may now kiss the bride."
-------------
"Haruhi, ponytails turn me on."
"What?"
"That ponytail you had back then looked so good on you, it was criminal!"
-------------
As the guests clapped and cheered, you looked at your hands, waiting for that familiar tug dragging you to god-knows-where.
But this time, you know that her hands will be dragging someone else now.
For who does the bells toll?
Nay. They are celebrating.
