"Dean, has it ever occurred to you that I could have come to earth as anyone?" Castiel began nervously. "Jimmy is just who I appear to you as."
Dean looked curiously at the angel. "Where did this come from?" He shuffled his dressy shoes on the sidewalk, placing his hands in his pockets. They were here to get information on a case and Sam was just finishing up while they stood by the Impala.
"I could have been anyone." Castiel smiled sadly. "I could have been a child, or an old man or a beautiful woman. But, it still would have been me."
The hunter frowned, not entirely understanding what the angel was implying. "Yeah, you've lost me, Cas. What?"
"If I had possessed an appealing woman you would have fallen in love with me without a second thought."
Dean's eyes widened. "Cas," He breathed.
"But, I was cursed, wasn't I?" Castiel let out an embarrassed laugh. "I possessed a man."
They remained silent for a few moments, Dean's gaze locked on Castiel the entire time.
"I am not Jimmy Novak, you know." Castiel muttered. "I'm the angel who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition. I'm the one who has always stayed by your side. I would do anything for you. I would give my life for you."
"I know you're not a man, Cas." Dean shook his head with a small smile. "Hey," Castiel flinched at the touch of Dean's hand on his. Their fingers intertwined and Castiel turned away, a little flushed. "You'll always be my angel."
Sam began walking back from some of the investigators and Dean snapped his arm back from Cas'. "Just don't tell Sammy."
