Vash the Stampede felt like the luckiest man alive.
The man with a $$60,000,000,000 reward on his head, for the moment, was not worried about anything.
He had not a care in the world.
For the time being he was content to lie next to the most important person in the world.
His love, his wife, Meryl Stryfe.
He listened blissfully to her soft snoring as she lay with her back facing him.
He rolled over on his side and put his hand on her rounded belly rubbing it with love and awe.
This tiny woman, his life, was carrying life.
Their new life.
Both of them knew that it was going to be a boy and thought that the name they chose would be as good as its previous owner.
Yes, Nicholas Wolfwood Stryfe was a very lucky little boy.
His father was the best gunman ever and his mother one of the smartest people on all of Gunsmoke.
Vash smiled to himself thinking back when her first learned of their new addition.
He had come home from their donut shop when he was greeted at the door by a glowing Meryl.
She smiled at him brighter than both of Gunsmoke's suns combined.
With a twinkle in her eye she told him she had a surprise for him.
Vash's own eyes began to gleam thinking about what exactly that "surprise" was.
Was he ever wrong.
Meryl led him into the living room and ordered him to sit down.
He grinned at her and did exactly as his little wife told him.
Her smile grew wider as she prepared what she was going to say, bouncing on her toes in front of him in anticipation.
It burst out of her like a bullet. "Vash! We're having a baby!"
You could have knocked him, Vash the Stampede, over with a mere feather at that moment.
Suddenly the largest grin ever recorded lit across his face as he picked his wife up and spun her around, relishing the sound of her happy laughter.
Vash's smile grew wider at the memory.
Again he went back to rubbing his wife's belly.
He was both excited and anxious for the precious bundles arrival.
Keeping his arm around her waist, Vash sank his head on to her pillow, burying his nose in her soft, dark tresses and eased into a peaceful slumber.
Meryl cracked her eyes open to slits as she smiled gently.
She brought her hand over her husbands, rubbing it like he had previously done to her.
"I love you Vash." She whispered.
"I love you too Meryl. Forever." He replied, equally soft.
Both smiled as they fell into a deep sleep.
The end.
